The CD Release party...as with anything, there is always a story...
When the CDs didn't arrive from the pressing plant in Atlanta on Thursday, we looked up the UPS tracking number online. Ryan spent about 10 minutes staring dumbly at the screen because he couldn't understand how it could possibly say they were arriving on December 5th when they were supposed to arrive on November 29th. Because we were so short for time and we needed them here before the CD release on December 1st, we had paid an extra $250 to have the box shipped overnight. Well, after calling various places including UPS, we were able to deduce that the company that was pressing the CDs had mistakenly just put them on a UPS ground truck, and they were somewhere now in the middle of Iowa. Ryan and Dave went off and after spending several hours yelling at various people, they were able to get the company to refund the $250 shipping charge since it was their screw-up and they agreed to ship 50 free CDs overnight to us (that would arrive hours before the CD release party) since Ryan, by that time, was threatenign to sue them.
The 50 CDs did arrive 6 hours before the release party. That was also around the time that I tripped and fell and split open my lip! This forced Beth and I to drive to Ulta and try to find some kind of blood-red looking lipstick that I could put on so my swollen bloodly lip would not be too noticeable from stage.
Despite all of these problems, the CD release party was great. We filled the club (and are sure to be invited back because of this!) and the club paid us in addition to the money we made off of the CDs we sold.
Near the end of the night, however, my coat was set near a candle in the bar, which then caught on fire, ruining the coat beyond repair. It was about this time, that a girl from the audience came up to me and told me that that she was a porn star and the corset I was wearing as part of my stage outfit was identical to the one she had worn in her most recent movie. Interesting. She also offered to film a music video for us for free, but but the end of the night, she was spotted falling down drunk and we had to leave the bar without getting her contact information. Which, in the long run, was probably for the best.
Though she did buy a CD for $10 (instead of $5) since she was too drunk to take her change.
One added bonus, our road manager, Gerek, convinced the sound guy to play the CD between each band, which was really cool since I had never heard it played in a club before!
All in all, a pretty spectacular night!!! So, if you were unable to attend and still want to hear the music, go to www.myspace.com/neptunesfavor where you can also buy tracks.
