First off, the third installment of News Jog Weekly (the weekly podcast I'm doing with Eric Von Haessler and Tim Andrews) is now up. Click HERE, give it a listen and tell me what you think. More importantly, tell other station managers in the market what you think!!
FUR GET ABOUT IT!
Saturday night was my wife's birthday party and I'd like to thank the fine folks at Fur Bus for ruining it. The Fur Bus, in case you're unaware, is a party bus with disco lights, music and, I guess, fur. It's generally reserved for bachelorette parties, proms, yahoos who've never been ITP, and, for this particular night, my wife, who thought it'd be fun...yippy.
To be honest, the last thing I ever wanted to do in my life was ride a Fur Bus but I kept having to remind myself it was "Lisa's Night", not mine, and she was really excited about it. Plus, it's not like I haven't dragged her to plenty of things over the years. Anyway, we had about 25 people meet at the house at 7:30. The plan was to have some drinks until the FB showed up at 8:00 and then took us to Loca Luna in Midtown.
I'll give you the short version: The GD MF POS Fur Bus never showed. They said it was "on the way" for about a half hour after it was already late, then said they had the reservation for 8:30 instead of 8:00, then eventually said they never had a reservation for us at all. It was one inept employee after the next. Anyway, after being an hour late for our reservation, the 25 of us had to caravan down to the restaurant in our cars. I never thought I'd be pissed at not going on a Fur Bus but Lisa was really bummed so bummed me too. (Kudos, by the way, to Loca Luna for holding our table.)
The Fur Bus people, in an act of contrition, offered us a future complimentary Fur Bus party. But, really, how many times in a grown adult's life is he/she gonna need a Fur Bus? I know what MY answer is. On a positive note, though, Lisa's brother - who flew in from Phoenix for the party - did hook up with one of the guests. So at least HE got to ride the fur bus.
DA TRASHERS
Goin' to my first Thrashers game of the season Wednesday night and I could not be less excited. I've never been the Don Waddell basher that a lot of are, but I haven't spoken with one insider or person with good hockey knowledge who has been impressed with anything the team did in the off-season. And although they've only played two games (and lost), it's the way they've lost that looks so familiar and leaves a long-time fan with that not-so-fresh feeling. I pray I'm wrong.
