Seriously, buses.

The SDMTS sponsored a contest.

The best fifteen photographs are up on their site, until the 27th, to find the most popular image.

Popularity contests being what they are, his fabulous composition might not automatically win on its merits.

That's where you come in, if you'd like to spend the moment.

Won't you go here and vote for his photograph?

Your vote doesn't just go to the photograph.

It justifies the five hours I spent standing on street corners, or in dark parks and
dark parking lots, as Michael took dozens--perhaps hundreds!--of
pictures of the new environmentally friendly buses that traverse the
San Diego streets. I was there for moral support, and to hold the
camera bag so that no unsavory people would make off with it while
Michael's eyes peered through various apertures, and to make sure he
gave up each evening before the vampires came out.

I was there to wait.

And wait.

And finally, on the last night possible, just as the long white fingers of the underworld were poking up through manhole covers down by Horton Plaza Park, Michael captured that shot.

Voting ends on Feb 27.

Cheers, and thanks!

(Of course, he would say that while he
would appreciate your vote, if there's another photograph you like
better, you should vote your aesthetic tastes. I won't say that. I'm
not as humble nor as nice as he is.)

PS If anyone wants to spread the word--about the environmentally friendly buses, of course--I would certainly appreciate it.

His shot makes the thought of riding the bus cool. And glamorous. And trendy! They actually have party buses in Panama that cruise the city at night with live bands and drinks aboard, so Panama still has us beat. But this pic shows that there's hope for this car country after all.
Did he use a Lens Baby or just a regular wide lens?

Why, yes, he DID use a lensbaby. With a star aperture. How cool that you recognize it. :) As for party buses, we have them in San Diego but they cost a lot to get on. I think they're mainly private party buses.

While the photo next to his is a good pic, I think if they were full size so you could see the crazy dancing stars in his, it would be kicking the other photo's ass.
It is an excellent pic!

Yeah - I don't think people know they can click on the images and see larger versions. :/ Or, that picture just has the word out better than we do. There are still two weeks to go!

Hello! I followed a bulletin Kjester here.

His is certainly the most visually interesting shot of the group.

The current starts are: His photo about 5.
7%
The one to the left (an early morning or evening shot) 58%
All the others are about 5% or less.

Now THAT is a bus I want to ride. It makes reducing my carbon foot print seem sexy all of a sudden. VOTE.

Voted! And it most definitely is the best shot, well worth you having to hang out on street corners for hours on end.

What's the reward, a walking tour of the city? ;-)

Grand prize is two round trip airline tickets anywhere in the continental US. So you can see why we might want to win. ;) Various other prizes include ipod shuffles, bus passes and Best Buy gift certificates.

But of course, the joy of winning surpasses all!

I think it is funny how many good pics there are. But one is dominating in the voting.

Art can be so hard and trying.

It is above freezing here now, and warming may continue.

Um, I almost won a plane ticket to NYC once. Was not very sad about the result though.

Wow, the party buses in Panama sound like something to experience.
