ATHOL-Intermediate CD $12 (ind.)
How do you describe this band? "instrumental" would be an unimaginative way i suppose. They make you wanna dance but their penchant for odd time signatures makes it an interesting challenge to say the least. This is the follow up to their debut DONT and is miles ahead sound wise. Recorded at Head Gap by Neil Thomason (ITGB/Fangs of.../My Disco etc. etc.) the production is spot on and matched by the performance. DIY bands are supposed to be this shit hot musicians! I guess maybe this is for fans of Fugazi/Fucking Champs/The Police/King Crimson....Dual Plover style Mini LP jacket. 38 mins long.

CRUX/Pazahora- Split CD (015TZM) $12
Hailing from Sydney and Singapore respectively i think it's fair to say these two represent the best in DIY crust from their towns. Crux boast the incredible talents of John English (Pure Evil) on drums and it is his playing and Lachies relentlessly heavy and doom laden Guitar work that really sets this band apart from others in their genre. I usually can't stand Crust but this release is an exception. Glossy 6 panel mini LP style covers.

Movement/The Marianas Double Digi Pak CD
Deep Where All Drown- The Marianas/Movement Double Digipak CD $22 (ind) Pretty much the most under appreciated punk band to come out of Melbourne in the last few years. Played a bunch of shows and seem to have hit an indefinite retirement. Features ex members of Venom P. Stinger/Mark of Cain/ The Family and many many more

The Pure Evil Trio-This is our Music 12"LP (a&c02)-$14
There are few bands I miss more than these Sydney punk/jazz/diy one of a kinders. This is their debut LP and is one of the best debuts out there in my opinion. For short attention span embracers and lovers of all things punishing. Full colour sleeve.

Ninetynine-The Process 12"LP (a&c01) $16

The album that really put this band on the map, an essential part of the Australian DIY/Indie story. featuring members of Sleater kinney, Flesh Vs venom, Baseball, lee memorial and more. This is a quality album and proof that DUY bands can still produce very hi-fi records.
Wicked City-She Burns/Broken Bones 7" $12 (ind.)
Probably Melbourne's most under appreciated punk ROCK band. These guys just get better and better. Side A is a relentless punk rock prog epic and has long been a favourite of mine from their live sets. Side B is a bonged out space echo fest, placed there as a courtesy i'm guessing to give you a chance to recover from side A. Both tracks are exclusive to this release.

Wicked City-Nothing Tastes The way it Smells CD (ADR4) $20 + Debut EP Free for Ltd time!
First Full length and first recording as a trio from the lads who do it how they wanna do it and don't wait to see if you or anyone else cares. Recorded by the one and only Neil Thomason at Headgap. An unusually good debut album that's not seen the attention it deserves. For a ltd time it comes with a free copy of their debut ep featuring the classic "Harold the Hippo".

:

Project album headed by Blackie (Hard Ons/Nunchukka etc) and Chris Townend (Big Jesus Burger Studios) and featuring such distinguished guests as Robbie Avevaim (Phlegm, wOg etc.), Oren Ambarchi (Phlegm, SUNN O)). This album is a real grower and unlike anything else we've seen Blackie put out. these are the last few copies in print. It completely defies genre.

Hotel Wrecking City Traders - Self Titled CD $8
Recorded by the awesome Nao Anzai at Cumbersome Studios this captures this totally rad two piece pretty much completely live in the studio. And when i say two piece Guitar/Drums don't think of all those shitty swampy rehash bands. These guys are the real deal.
Jihad Against America Live after Deth 12' $22
Recording of the last JAA show at The Tote. Pop/Grind carnage with triple vocal attack and casio shred. The whole things clocks in at under 19mins. Guest vox from Legends of Motorsport and the covers are real shiny. Decent weight on the wax too. From Weather records.
Pleasant Valley- Songs about Amplifiers CDR$4 (RR-001.)
3 track single debut from Pleasant Valley, garage band from Lismore in Northern NSW. Limited release of 200 hand numbered cdrs with artwork in plastic sleeves. And with this price tag how can you say no?
Pure Evil Pure Evil Trio $15 (SC-03)

Ryokuchi (japan) Shinsho $15 (SMD006)
First album from the Heaviest band in Japan. 1 song , 30 mins. A total journey.Packaged in a CD sized DVD case with a full colour insert and full colour fold out poster.
Ryokuchi (Japan) 'Loud Creative' Split CD with Disco 4 Channel $15 (SMD 002)Before there was Shinsho Ryokuchi gave us this. Original 5 piece lineup of two drummers, two guitars and fretless bass. Recorded in 2003 this is genuinely heavy. Very few copies left. Not much chance of a re-press. Jewel Case.
Scum System Kill/Poodles of Nuke'em High split 7' $8 (SC-1)This is what the label had to say:
The opening salvo! Fucking raging metal/hardcore intensity courtesy of the hard-rockin' grrls in Poodles (from ....Wellington...., Aotearoa). Scum System Kill (punkrock ladies [and one ladyboy] out of Sydney, Arsetralia) rock the slowburn epic into dual-vox raw crust punk tip, with a little visit from the accordion for good measure. Hell tuff cross-Tasman carnage from both, with mutually killer lyrics to boot.

Spider Goat Canyon - Shades of Joy CD Album (Chairfish 001) $16Hi Fi as all fuck 18 track debut from prolific Melbourne 3 piece. A demanding listen, packed full of hits. Massive 24 page full colour fold out booklet, clear jewel case.
Spider Goat Canyon- Window Wizard CD ep $16Made up of rehearsal room recordings/live to airs and studio outtakes. As excessive as anything these lads have dished up. 68 mins is not exactly your average ep length! A ripper for the completist nerd. Jewel case with 6 page full colour booklet.
Spider Goat Canyon- Cacophonic CD Album $16
Follow up to their monster debut. A little more focused at 12 tracks long. Plenty of live favourites get a long overdue studio recording. Their Hi-Fi approach in the studio is continued, a number of songs are reworked for the studio setting. An essential piece of the (epic) Spider Goat Story. Jewel case with 6 page full colour booklet.
Spider Goat Canyon-Jazilla CDep $16
A 9 song, 60 min collection of outtakes from the 'Cacophonic' sessions. These blokes sure aren't short on material. I belive there is even more on the way. Jewel case, 6 page full colour booklet.
The Thaw - Bruce Lee CD ep (Ind.) $7
1 track, 16 mins. Awesome 3 piece from Syd. Killer instrumental sections and beautiful vox. This abnd are full of spirit and brains. Mini LP cover on Recycled Board.
The Thaw - Convenience Kills CDR (Ind) $7
If you missed out on the cassette (Ltd. 70 copies). This is your chance. Same songs, better sound. A lot more punky, at times, than Bruce Lee ep. 6 songs in 15 mins followed by one 15 mins jam. Hand painted cardboard slips and Numbered out of 100.
The Union-Fools Gold CDR. $7 (independent)Before Fire Witch Jem played in 6 piece jammy/experimental/whatevertheywanted band The Union. This is the last record they ever made and by far the most Lo-Fi. There are only a handful of copies left. Comprising of one massive jam, a quiet (ish) song and some other bits that popped up during one weekend in a warehouse. I'd like to do a re-press but doubt i'll have the money for some years. Full colour hand screen printed/folded digi paks.

Unbelievably Bad

Distro from X-Mist Records (Denmark)
(reviews taken from X-Mist site)
A killer DIY label from Denmark who also have an extensive distro section. There is a fair bit of crossover of artists/releases with X-Mist and Wantage USA. and much like Wantage they have a habit of releasing great records from bands BEFORE they hit it big or top notch side projects of bigger bands. This is but a fraction of their output and leans towards the more angular/high energy side of things but not annoying whingey shit!

Ex Models feat. Kid Milions "The Chrome Panthers" LP (XM-087) $24
This record contains all new recordings by the EX MODELS, now reduced to a twopiece with Shahin Motia and Zach Seconds, joined by drummer Kid Millions of ONEIDA! Following up to the split-7" with HOLY MOLAR, released on the californian label THREE ONE G, the 6 tracks here are totally extreme, full-on blasting Noise-Punk madness, like taking the sound of their previous album "Zoo Psychology" to new heigths and limits! With a full playing- time of 27 minutes!

Ex Modeals/The Seconds Split 7" ep (XM-071) $12
Features 2 songs each by both these New-York-Now-Wave bands! More of the hectic & spastic Neo-Punk blasts by the SECONDS, and the EX MODELS sounding like "the missing link" between the JESUS LIZARD and ARAB ON RADAR! Originally released as a CD on MY PAL GOD RECORDS, now put onto vinyl exclusively by X-MIST!

Kurt-La Guard LP (XM-068/Nova17) $24
KURT are back, and they're better than ever! Their 3rd full album was exceeding the highest of our expectations! This LP finally captures their sound at its full potential: Razor-sharp guitars, a thundering bass and full-on driving drums, all totally tight and compact, and at the same time clear and crisp. fans of local band Truth From Facts will dig on this stuff for sure.

This Moment In Black History-It Takes a Nation of Assholes to Hold Us back LP (XM-094) $24
The 2nd complete full-length album by this awesome band from Cleveland/Ohio – Featuring 14 songs recorded by STEVE ALBINI at Electric Audio Studio in Chicago! Released exclusively worldwide on VINYL via X-MIST RECORDS (CD released on COLD SWEAT RECORDS in the USA)! THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY includes ex-members of NEON KING KONG, CHARGERS STREET GANG and BASSHOLES – and the band has previously released records on labels like EXIT STENCIL RECORDINGS, VERSION CITY, and GOLD STANDARD LABORATORIES. For those unfamiliar, THIS MOMENT IN BLACK HISTORY are a welcome addition to the legendary musical lineage of their home state of Ohio (PAGANS, DEVO, DEAD BOYS, ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS), filling a void in the sound and subject matter sorely missed in contemporary culture. Sonically traversing territories blazed by BAD BRAINS, the MONORCHID, LE SHOK or PERE UBU, while lyrically challenging social and political norms with the wit and insight of such greats as BLACK FLAG or PUBLIC ENEMY. This LP comes with very special artwork, including a printed innersleeve, and a peel-off sticker on the cover (just like back then Andy Warthol’s banana on the legendary first VELVET UNDERGROUND LP...)

Ten Volt Shock-Debut LP or CD version (XM-080/CR-11) $24 or $18
Layers of noise flesh out the trebly bass and drums bones of this german noise-hardcore band - while the throaty, semi-distorted screams and harmonic feedback from KURT vocalist/guitarist Frank adds the epidermis. So sure, this sounds a bit like KURT; but its brutality hits like a hammer instead of a midnight intruder though!"
This LP is packaged in a truely amazing screenprinted-cover, that unfolds to a fantastically great-looking poster! Split-release by X-MIST and CHRISTOPHERS RECORDS

Wrangler Brutes-32 songs LP "The Tape" $24

This is THE vinyl-version of the 16 tracks, recorded prior to their "Zulu" album (KILL ROCK STARS), and until now having been only available as a cassette! And if you think "Zulu" was great, then you'll be amazed how INCREDIBLE these 16 songs are! Listening to Hardcore-Punk now for more than 20 years, there's hardly anything (if anything at all!) in this genre that really blows me away and gets me totally excited... but these tracks surely did so! It's like a perfect combination of early BLACK FLAG with VOID (the legendary DC-band), all transferred into the 21st century, or like a mix of BORN AGAINST with MONORCHID/SKULL KONTROL!
Almost forgot to mention it, the WRANGLER BRUTES feature the following persons: Sam McPheeters (BORN AGAINST, MEN'S RECOVERY PROJECT), Andy Coronado (MONORCHID, SKULL KONTROL, etc...), Brooks Headley (UNIVERSAL ORDER OF ARMAGEDDON, YOUNG PIONEERS, BORN AGAINST, etc...) and Cundo Si Murad (DEATH DRUG, NAZTI SKINS)!

Distro From HCB Records (Israel)
Barbara-Peger CD (HCB009) $10
Juxtaposing noise-core, grind and doom, with strong hints of black metal, it's hard to accept the fact that Barbara's instrumental line-up is comprised only by a drummer (David OPP A.K.A Cadaver Eyes) and a bass player (Re-em H), both of them also deliver the screams and perverse whispers on their first album in four years, a hectic and mindless anti-musical rupture.
For fans of Today Is the Day, VOG, Truman's Water, Burmese, Lightning Bolt and Pig Destroyer.

Burmese/Cadaver Eyes -Split CD (HCB016) $12 Like demented twins in crime, Burmese (tUMULt / Load Records) & Cadaver Eyes rephrase Doom, Grindcore and Power Electronics by using an agonizing mechanism of plain brutal aesthetics, ascending these genres to a higher level of cognitive surge. This split CD is difficult and pungent, a warm spew in the face and an endless buzz in the eardrum that fiercely occupies the brain and treats the grey cells as if they were an ashtray. A crude awakening and a classic case of ponderous self indulgence.

Cadaver Eyes-The Aquisition of Power Over Fire/ No Time to Haste CDR $10
Future grindcore is here, this release contains; "NO TIME TO HASTE" recorded aug, 2001 @ Austin Enterprise by Steve Austin of Today Is The Day, and "THE ACQUISITION OF POWER OVER FIRE EP" recorded at Day-Dream 2004.
19 tracks + 5 more tracks = 42 MIN of blasting future grind - these 24 annihilating tracks range from ultra blasts to death doom and from black metal to industrial noise.

D9-S/T CD (HCB021) $10 Named after one of the most imaginative and infamous key roles in the Israeli occupation, D9 is as merciless as this monstrous bulldozer, ramming reality in its' forehead with their post apocalyptic hectic predictions, directed towards the Israeli state and the worlds' systematic moral corruption, fueling their fury with an offensive portion of old school hardcore punk, and generating this boiling wrath into an original crushing blend of sly grindcore and bare boned power violence hostility, with a fair amount of devastating sludgy riffage and obscure electronic noise intervals to make their squashing sound even more quirky and disturbing.
Recommended if you like Dropdead, Pig Destroyer, Man is the Bastard, Burmese, early Facedowninshit, Capitalist Casualties, Dystopia and Siege.

Grave in the Sky-Cutlery Hits China CD(HCB015) $10 The Sludge-core scene is injected with a poison: Horror movies DVD subtitles are being gargled and forced into song lyrics, backed up by heavy poundings and black metallic space-rock dirges, on this new release from Rani Zager (Poochlatz /Lietterschpich), Maor Appelbaum (Poochlatz/Sleepless/Screening) and Matan Shmuelly (Armilos).
Check this out if you're into Hey Colossus, Corrupted, Gravitar, Darkthrone and Electric Wizard.

Hollowing+ Maor Appelbaum-Collaborating Torture CD (HCB017) $10 Collaborating Torture is one of the last known recordings made by Matt Gibney AKA Hollowing, who died in January 2006. Gibney, a member of SOIHADTOSHOOTHIM who was also running the important Rectrix label and mail-order, was joined here by the prolific Maor Appelbaum (Grave in the Sky, Poochaltz and Maurizio Bianchi, to name but a few...) to create a brooding and massive 54 minutes track of dark pitch-black ambient of hypnagogic swirls and industrialized drones. Sometimes subtle, yet mostly haunted and delirious, this is highly recommended if you like Wilt, Murderous Vision, Brighter Death Now, Aidan Baker, Z'ev, Daniel Menche, The Caretaker and John Duncan.

Lietterschpich-I Cum Blood in the Think Tank CD (HCB013) $10
If Mark Stewart was joining Khanate and Bad Brains were playing black metal, there's a slight chance that a resemblance to what Lietterschpich (Hebrew for Liter of Cum) has achieved with their debut album will arise. This bleak digital-doom-dub shriek is bound to slap the hard-core fans of innovative harsh music.
It doesn't get more extreme than this! Featuring members of Barbara and Grave in the Sky, this is highly recommended if you like Throbbing Gristle, Volt, Stallagh, Menstruation Sisters and White Mice.

Remesh-Choke CDR (HCB018) $10 A three-piece act from the holy city of Jerusalem.
Influenced by the pagan-industrial of Coil or Swans, and the contemporary avant-garde black metal of Leviathan or Xasthur, while wallowing in self-loathing, "Choke" is a bit more than 15 minutes of epic-noise anointment, accompanied by deviant sensibilities of refined abhorrence.

Raxinasky-The Anti-apopathodiaphulatophobicoustical days CD (HCB019) $10A brutal slap in the face coming your way from Belgium's Raxinasky. With six tracks, representing six cathartic days in less than 45 minutes, Raxinasky are taking their multi-ultra-anti-musical and hateful attitude one step further into a sonic battlefield of nihilist prog-core, slanted death metal, deranged NO-WAVE and mutant grindcore revolts.
Recommended if you like The Flying Luttenbachers, Monno, Ruins, Hella, ZU, Happy Family, Discordance Axis and Cephalic Carnage.
