Call for artists / Convocatoria para artistas: The Public Theater: 2010 Emerging Writing Program

The Emerging Writers Group, now accepting applications for its third year, seeks to target playwrights at the earliest stages in their careers. In so doing, The Public hopes to create an artistic home for a diverse and exceptionally talented group of up-and-coming playwrights. Through an open application process, The Public Theater will select 10 emerging playwrights to join the Emerging Writers Group from January through December 2010.
El Emerging Writers Group está aceptando solicitudes para su tercer año, busca autores de obras de teatro en las etapas iniciales de sus carreras. Para ello, The Public espera crear un centro artístico para acoger un grupo diverso y excepcionalmente talentoso de autores de obras de teatro prometedoras. The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation announces a call for artists and crafters in all media for its fourth annual Fall for Arts Festival, scheduled for Saturday, October 10, from 11am – 4pm and will be held at the Good Sheperd Plaza, 543 Main Street, in the heart of Roosevelt Island. This is an event designed to promote fine artists and crafters work. Booths will be given to selected artists. Submissions will be evaluated based upon their concept, workmanship, presentation and medium.

Studios / Estudios: The Keyholder Residency Program
Deadline: Tuesday, September 1
The Keyholder Residency Program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Residencies are free and one year long, starting on April 1st and October 1st each year. Keyholders work independently, in a productive atmosphere alongside other contemporary artists. Artists from all disciplines are eligible to apply; print-making skills are not required, but some familiarity with the medium is recommended. Basic instruction in printmaking techniques is available for new Keyholders (instruction price not included in the program).
El Keyholder Residency Program ofrece a artistas emergentes acceso las 24 horas a instalaciones de impresión para desarrollar nuevos trabajos y fomentar sus carreras artísticas. Las residencias gratuitas y de un año de duración, comenzando el 1 de abril y el 1 de octubre de cada año. Los inquilinos trabajan de forma independiente, en una atmósfera productiva al lado de otros artistas contemporáneos. Serán elegibles artistas de cualquier disciplina. No se necesita formación en trabajos de imprenta, pero se recomienda una cierta familiaridad con el medio. Está disponible una instrucción básica en técnicas de imprenta (el precio de dicha instrucción no está incluido en el programa).

Call for artists / Convocatoria para artistas: Art Exhibition Spaces at Columbia University
Deadline: October 1
Columbia University’s Office of Government and Community Affairs offers exhibition spaces for artists from upper Manhattan (artists must reside in Manhattan on or north of 96^th street). Exhibition spaces are available in the reception areas of two Columbia University Medical Center buildings, the Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion and the Lasker Biomedical Research building. Shows run for approximately 6 weeks; artwork is installed by an experienced art handler and can be sold with 100% return to artists through direct contact with artists. Exhibits are selected up to one year in advance and priority is given to emerging artists. The spaces only accommodate works that may be hung by wire and are more-or-less flat.  No freestanding artwork will be permitted in either space. 
Columbia University’s Office of Government and Community Affairs ofrece espacios de exposición para artistas del alto Manhattan (residentes en Manhattan en, o más al norte de la calle 96). Los espacios están disponibles en las áreas de recepción de dos edificios del Columbia University Medical Center, el Russ Berrie Medical Science Pavilion y el edificio Lasker Biomedical Research. Las exposiciones se desarrollan a lo largo de aproximadamente dos semanas; los trabajos son instalados por un experimentado manipulador de arte y pueden ser vendidos contactando directamente con el artista, yendo 100% del precio obtenido al artista. Opportunity / Oportunidad: Chashama Harlem Exhibition Space
Located between Amsterdam and Morningside Avenues in West Harlem is chashama's 461 Gallery space, dedicated to Harlem, Upper Manhattan and Bronx-based artists. Through the generosity of Janus Management, chashama currently hosts over 30 visual artists studios on the first and second floors of this building. Our exhibit area consists of one 20' x 35' room on the first floor, with one exhibition per month. Applications will be reviewed three times a year for the exhibition space we currently have available. A few traditional exhibits will be selected "in reserve" should another space become available before the next application review period.
Entre las avenidas Amsterdam y Morningside, en West Harlem se encuentra el espacio chashama’s 461 Gallery, dedicado a artistas basados en el Harlem, el Alto Manhattan o el Bronx. Gracias a la generosidad de Janus Management, chashama alberga actualmente más de 30 estudios de artistas visuales en los dos primeros pisos de este edificio. Nuestra área de exposición consiste en una habitación de 20’ x 35’ en el primer piso, con una exposición al mes. Las solicitudes serán examinadas tres veces al año para el espacio que disponemos. Unas exposiciones tradicionales quedarán “en reserva” por si se da el caso de que quede un espacio disponible antes del siguiente periodo de revisión.
