Hello,
Firstly to the rolling hills of North Wales...and Llangollen, a tranquil place, full of sheep, steam trains, canal boats, stoned ageing hippies and fields full of mushrooms. And the place where I spent my childhood. I'll be making a return there in a couple of weeks as SL Records have teamed with The Llangollen Fringe festival to put on Misty's Big Adventure and Thomas Truax in Llangollen Town Hall on Saturday 19th July, for one of the highlights of this year's festival. Tickets are available from the fringe website, as well as details of the rest of this years fringe event's (http://www.llangollenfringe.co.uk/), if you're quick you may be able to snap up the last few tickets that they've made available to the bands mailing lists for only 5 pound by following this link (http://www.llangollenfringe.co.uk/08mistyelist.htm). If you fancy making a wee break of it there's numerous B&B's and camp sites and Llangollen offers the whole host of outdoors pursuits, hills, hippies and mind altering substances that you'd expect to find in the Welsh hills (that's not quite how Llangollen tourist board would put it - you can contact them on 01978 860828 for B&B details, two good camp sites within an easy walk of the town are Wern Isaf (http://www.wernisaf.supanet.com/) and Abbey Farm (http://www.abbeyfarmcaravans.co.uk/). Access is easy by train (stopping at nearby Chirk or Ruabon) or car, and there are a large number of good pubs and full range of places to eat!). I hope to see you there.
For those of you down in London Town Paul Vickers & The Leg will be pulling into town this Saturday (12th July) to play at the Guided Missile Club, with the ever wonderful Bearsuit. It's at the Buffalo Bar, the band are on at 10pm and the dancing continues till 4am. Looks like the band will be sleeping in Pete's car - unless any kind soul out there can offer four scruffy boys a floor for the night. You can also catch Paul, with Dan from The Leg and Greg formerly of The 55's playing an acoustic country set at Ride This Train/FAST at The Bongo Club on Friday 11th July - they'll be joined by Dr Yes, dispensing emotional and medicinal tonics for all concerned. And an advance warning, Paul Vickers & The Leg will be playing a special show with The Gussets at this years Edinburgh Festival, at Henry's Cellar Bar on the 21st August - more details soon or from http://www.myspace.com/paulvickersandtheleg.
BEEEEEP! Tshhhh, tssssh, burr ba burrrr ba burrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr! This is the musical masterstroke that kicks off Lords of B'stard's self titled debut album, Lords of Bast'rd. Following the planetary success of their single, Off With Their Heads/ Kingsize Karma, this release offers more of the same journey through sludge, doom, punk and stoner rock, but this time there are seven more whole songs. As lead singer Mike puts it, "This is an album". So if you like albums, then this might be for you. Having played with many excellent touring bands across Scotland, over the past few years, LoB's sound has really developed. There are quieter bits and louder bits, and some bits that seem faster than others but might not be, when drummer Rik was interviewed about this recently he said "yes". LoB like their vintage amps turned up to "Big"; this could be what it would sound like if the 1970s were angry at you. Recorded in Edinburgh by no-one famous, and not featuring Mary J Blige, this heady mix of space weed, dungeons and purple promises to be a treat for fans and a dreadful risk to others. It'll be available from 8th September, in exchange for money, as CD and download. Have a look at their myspace for a preview of the album and details of live shows http://www.myspace.com/lordsofbastard.
We're delighted to be involved with putting out the new album by Misty's Big Adventure. 'Televisions People' will be a joint release on SL Records and the bands own Grumpy Fun Records and heading your way in October. The details are still being finalised, and as soon as I know more I'll let you all know. Suffice to say the album's excellent, the band will be touring extensively later on in the summer, again full details from myspaz..(http://www.myspace.com/mistysbigadventure
As well as appearing at the Llangollen festival Mr Thomas Truax is back on the road, playing at the Truck Festival in Oxford and then in Ireland. And he's joined by the latest band member, Mother Superior. I've yet to met her, but looking forward to what I'm sure will be a pleasure in Llangollen.
That almost all for now, if you fancy reading an interview with one of the founders of SL Records have a look at http://musicians.about.com. As well as the interview you'll also find lots of useful and interesting stuff - well useful if you're a musician, in a band or looking for a 'career' in the music industry.
Adios,
Ed
