The Teenagers are currently working on the songs for the follow-up to their 2008 debut, Reality Check. Their European mini tour brought them recently to Spain for a couple of dates. One word is more than enough to describe the gig at Razzmatazz: wild. I had a brief chat with Quentin about the show, the new album, their dream collaboration and favourite drinks…

Hey, how are you? So, you played some of the new songs for the first time in Bilbao and Barcelona…what’s your first reaction?
It was really cool! We didn't expect such a good reception…But it’s Spain, people are locos and they like to party! We played 3 new songs, it was scary and exciting at the same time, like when you kiss a new girl for the first time.

Yeah, it was really rad at Razz! You played Jealousy, Come To Bed and another tune at the end (I didn’t catch the title). Exactly this one had a kind of R'n'B vibe, pretty different from all your previous stuff…
Thanks! It's called Going Back To Bed, not Come To Bed…haha…but that's a good idea anyway! The last one was Harlequin Romance. It's more disco than R'n'B but why not...

Sorry for the mix-up with the titles…I had a girl shouting in my ear most of the gig…She was pretty drunk and told us she came to Barcelona from Chile only for your gig…Anyway…In the last 2/3 years the music scene has changed a lot…is that going to influence your sound? How is the production of the new album going?
We are working on our songs while figuring it all out. How, when, who etc…yeah, the industry has really changed and it's a turning point. We want to make the most of today. What we want to achieve is more diversity. We are not stuck with one sound like we were on the previous album. We definitely want to try more stuff …but it will still sound like us!

Reality Check is soaked in 90’s pop culture. Are the nineties still the reference point for your lyrics?
We are still inspired by the 90s, but it's not so brutal.

If you could have someone for the backing vocals of your next imaginary single, who would you choose?  Anyone, even from the past, even dead or unknown…
I’d choose Lou from the New Sins - she also plays the keys on NYPC. She would fit perfectly our sound. She sounds soft and sexy and she is so cute and sweet.

Good choice! I was checking the list of stuff you mention on your myspace as your influences, and a word catch my attention… Champomy. I’ve check online and…man, it’s great! I feel like I’ve missed something…my birthday parties as a child would have been far more successful with it! How is it mixed with spirits?
Haha…It's amazing…We used to have that as kids in France, but we still love it now we have grown up…yeah, you can mix it with vodka. I actually created that cocktail a couple of months ago. It’s called Kutie. Trademarked. Vodka Redbull is overrated and bad for your teeth.

Can you please send me a youtube link of a video you want me to post along with this interview? Whatever you like…
Errr…I’ll go for the video we did after touring in America the first time. So, yeah self-promotion, but it was really a cool tour! And the song is Love No remixed by Delorean, the Spanish band, ha! Enjoy it!
