Hey Guys,

I rarely post bulletins on here, but the sad and recent death of Steve Irwin triggered some thoughts that I felt compelled to share with all of you.  For starters, I lost someone who I deeply love and care for not too long ago, so when someone special passes away, it always triggers the pain that I feel, and reminds me of my own loss that I unfortunately had to experience.  Aside from that, I just wanted to use this opportunity to pick the brains of you guys, and to get you all thinking.  As most of you know, I am passionate about animal rights, human rights, and the environment.  My philosophy that I preach is that if every single one of us tried to find one small, easy thing that we can do that would make the world a little bit better, then we should strive to do that.  We don't have to become Mother Teresa and dedicate our every waking breath to it.  We just should do SOMETHING, anything, more than just sit on our asses.  If millions of people did one small, easy thing to help other people, animals, or the environment, then collectively it would make such a huge impact.  Over the past couple of years of being on MySpace, and of living in the real world, I have come across so many people who think it's okay to make racist remarks, or have "fuck you and fuck everyone" all over their myspace page, or just in general seem to be sad, miserable, hateful people.  I even had one guy call me a "fake" because my stage persona with Nocturne is so dark and aggressive, yet I always send out little e-mails about saving furry little animals, and since the two ideas seem to conflict with one another, that must make me a "fake", according to him.  I responded by saying that I am not fake - the anger that I express through my band is very real, and my band has become an outlet for that anger.  Because I am fortunate enough to have that outlet, the rest of the time, when I'm not onstage or writing, I can be the kind, happy person who I genuinely am (or try to be!).  The point is, that in a lot of people's minds, it is not cool to be compassionate and kind.  This is really sad.  And how this gets back to Steve Irwin is that he was such an amazing person because he dedicated his entire life to conservation, the environment, and saving animals.  He dedicated his life to making the world a better place.  In my book, that is commendable and admirable beyond what words can describe.  I would like to ask all of you to take a moment to think about your own life, and how you live, and what you do.  So many people just simply "exist".  They go to work (or school), they come home, they eat dinner, they talk on the phone or go on myspace, they go out drinking with friends, they come home and go to sleep, and then they wake up the next day and repeat the whole cycle.  Most people say "I'm too busy" or "I'm too broke" to make a difference.  Can you really not find a couple of dollars to donate?  (A couple of dollars multiplied by thousands or millions of people is a lot of money!)  Can you really not find 5 minutes to help someone, or make a phone call, or write a letter to try to change something for the better?  Or what about stopping throwing your trash out the car window?  Or vowing to stop wearing fur?  Or being a little nicer to people in general?  Do those things take time or money?  Some people are really deplorable....not only do they do absolutely nothing to make the world any better, they actually make it WORSE, in my opinion.  They use racial slurs or act in a way that is disrespectful towards women (ie: guys in bands?  Yeah, hahaha.), they leave their dog in the backyard for 12 hours a day and pay no attention to it, they spread gossip and talk shit about people, they're short tempered with the cashier at the store, they have road rage, screaming at people and flipping them off, they throw their trash out the car window, they're rude to people, or arrogant, etc, etc, etc.  Basically, they are alive simply for themselves - to exist, to take, to use, and to suck up the oxygen, and that is it.  Maybe you personally are not this bad.  Or are you?  But ask yourself.do you simply "exist"?  Do you take, do you use?  Do you ever give back?  Whats the nicest thing you did for someone in the past week?  What have you done for someone recently that made you feel good about yourself?  Can you answer that question?  Seriously, think about it.  Would other humans or animals on this earth be any better or worse off if you were not here?  What would life be like if you didn't exist?  Would it be better?  Worse?  Or the same?  Would it matter?  Maybe it would.  But could you make it matter even moreso?  Just take a moment and really think about this.  Again, I'm not encouraging you to become the next Steve Irwin or Mother Teresa or whoever, but I am encouraging you to examine your own life and see if there is something a little bit more that you could do that would help make this planet and its inhabitants just a little bit better.  Any little change that you could make.  The fact that such a great human being, Steve Irwin, is now gone, we all should try to make up for that loss, with our own actions.  I'm sure it would have been what he wanted.

Or maybe you dont care.

I would love to hear your feedback on this.  Please post your thoughts.

Thanks, and cheers,

- Lacey

Good points! I think you're right, the key is definitely to think small, because well, everything does count in large amounts is the best way to put it. Even if you're doing something small, the other 100 people doing the same small thing adds up and it makes a big difference. For example: I buy cat food at Petsmart and at the register they always ask if you want to donate a dollar to the animal shelter. The way I see it, my card probably already saved me over a dollar, I'm not really going to notice spending an extra dollar and if everyone who shops there did that, there's a whole lot of dollars for the shelter! Sure, it may not seem like much on the surface, but it does mean something.

Same thing goes for dealing with people. I'm amazed at how thoughless people can be. I had a BBQ this past weekend and I knew a friend of mine was coming that's vegan, so I picked up an extra pack of vegan burgers and veggie cheese and she was amazed that I was so thoughtful. Now, to me, I considered this a no-brainer, but apparently there's people out there that's not even that thoughtful towards their friends.

I agree too. I try to do my bit, I recycle what I can, I'm polite to people, I help out people if they need it. I just wish everyone would do it, it does get to me how people are so self-centred and also how when you are polite to some people they don't even acknowldge it. I put up with it though and I try to lead by example and ope that by me being nice that other people will try it too.

Very well put Lacey...those are all amazing points.
While I didnt really follow Steve Irwin or his practices or know a whole lot about what he did, I do know that he was teaching the masses about animals and bringing to light some that were endagered, the proper environments for some animals that some people like to keep as pets but shouldnt, and the like.
I know that I learned a lot from him in regards to animals when I did watch his shows.
And I also agree that if everyone did their part, a small tiny part....even something as small as volunteering at an animal or homeless shelter, donating food, or recycling, that it WOULD be a huge impact on our world.

Hey Lacey, thanks for that message, it reminds me of Christopher Reeve when he died back in '04, a lot of ppl lost their idea of "Superman" and he is one of the reasons I wanted to become an actor to begin with. I would think "Damn, I think I got it bad?" but he took that disability and still made an impact in society.....

Steve Irwin died doing something he loved to do...some ppl I know had a "see I told you so" mentality, but then again it was a part of his job, there was always a danger involved, and he showed the world how passionate he was about animals and with all those episodes of Crocodile Hunter around, he's still gonna make an impact in many, many ppl for many years to come....

I think it is amazing that you take the time to care and ask us to look at our lives and see how we can make a change. We are our own worst enemy when it comes to the earth we live on. We are destroying our vegetation which provides us oxygen and a home for the beautiful animals around us and replacing it with concrete. The planet is heating up, our polar ice caps are melting at an accelerated rate and no one seems to take notice. Will they notice when they are below sea or when half the world as we know it no longer exist? It is essential for everyone to do their part in saving the world we live in. As far as you being a fake, I can say that although I have only met you a few times in the past that your kindness is anything but fake as well as your talent as a singer.

This is something that I feel has needed to be said for a while now. So many people are going on about how sad the loss of Steve Irwin was, and yet so few people actually focused on what he stood for, and what we can do to carry on that legacy of conservationism, and working toward a better human experience for everyone. I really hope this message spreads, as it would serve to open a lot of eyes. Thank you for your efferts, Lacey. You're truely an inspiration.

Lacey, I agree with everything you said in that message. YOu are a very uniqe indivisual. In a very good way. I'm glad that theres people like you,  Mother Teresa, and Steve Erwin. Granted they are dead and i hope you don't die any time soon. BUt there needs to be more people that are deticated to making this world a better place. I myself live in St. Louis, MO. Here they are always building new houses, building's for buisnesses, and just buildings in genral. But yet there are TONS of old run down piece of shit building's. There is tons of areas of St. Louis that are very Dangerous becuase they don't bother fixing them up and they are the cheaper parts of St. Louis and thats where all the gangs and hoodlems are living. Being that i've lived in the city more or less my entire life, i have traveled alot and have seen alot of country side. There seems to be a lot of people that live in the bigger city's that could give a rat's ass. They think that someone else will do their cleanup for them. ANd not enough people that are trying to help. Therefor theres always trash on the side of the roads, broken glass every where, and all these run down building's. Me and my friends do help. Not alot but we do help when we can. If we see something that can be done to help we do it. One of my best friends is a hippy along with the rest of his Family. They try their best to help the enviroment the best they can. Just a few years ago the bought some land about three hours out St. Louis and they are going to try to buy more. The land they bought is all woods. And they are trying to build their house around the trees to not have to cut alot down. There needs to be more of that being down then just bulldozing trees down to put up a new Shopping center((we already have way to many of them as it is)), a new subdivison, or a new road. More forest land needs to be saved. I think that anyone that cuts down a tree should palnt two in its place. There needs to be more Parks made in bigger city's that will keep the city green. There needs to be an alt. fuel source. Have you seen Chicogo??? it's just a cloud of smog from polluiton. Well i'll proly type more at a later date. If you ever feel like coming to St. Louis to try to help out a little bit let me know and i'll be there to help you out. Please respond to this on my page of email me on here and let me know what you think...

Lacey,

I love the fact that you are the activist you are!  You have made some excellent points here, and I commend you for that.  Your post reminds me of a time a few years ago when I was stuck in traffic, pissed off, etc, and a lady in the next lane just looked over at me and smiled.  For no reason.  It made me stop and think, and I couldn't help but to smile back.  I don't know why such a small gesture had such an impact, but it did, and ever since, I've tried to do the same in little ways. Whenever I see someone in a bad mood, I always try to smile at them or compliment them or some little thing because I know that those little things brighten my day, and I hope to do the same for someone else.  I know it's not much, but sometimes it can make all the difference in the world, even if just for a minute.  Events in my own life have led to the discovery that by helping someone else, I have in some way helped two people, even only if it's a momentary thing.  Those moments combined can make this world a slightly better place.

This is definately one of the few blogs I've read that actually had something substantial. In the superficial world of labels, cliques and all around bullshit, you are a woman who cares about things that matter. You are the first person I've seen on this site who has touched on Steve Irwin's death. I have also lost someone near and dear to me (my dog of 12 years) and knowing that there are people who love and care for animals as much as I do is unbelievably therapeudic.

Your entry really makes me want to try and be a better person in general, aside from the environmental issues, and I want to thank you for writing it.

Wow, you guys TOTALLY "get it"!!!  I think that is awesome, and inspiring.  Thank you all so much for posting your thoughts, and a huge thank you to you all for your flattering comments and kind words.  Yes, you are all right on, with your examples that you've shared.  This is what I'm talking about.  I think that, last I heard, there are 100-million people on MySpace (is that right?)?  Hopefully we can keep this message going.  A lot of people need to have their eyes opened for them.

i agree. a coworker was ridiculing me the other day saying i dont work everyday. when in fact i do. i have 4 jobs. just cause i dont work all of them everyday doesnt mean i am not busy. and guess what. i only get paid for one of them. i do the others because i enjoy them. - one's an apprenticeship, and one's on comission. ...i have a 'crap' job just so i can go to my apprenticeship an hr away..this person lives w/in walking distance, pays minimal rent to live in someones basement, and plays video games at work all day while the pile of trash in the back is piling over, theres mud on the floor and papers everywhere...which, ya know, is left for me to do...the one who does nothing...and after work everyday i visit my grandmother who is all alone for supper and scared to be alone at night. yeah id like to be out with my friends, but i bet she like some company even more - its gotta be hard to be old and not have anyone...i litterally know she wait s everyday for someone to see her...after that i have to go home ..around 11pm or so and do other work and spend time with my cat and eat . so i hate when people say i dont 'do anything'. im tired of hearing people saying im doing work for nothing. im learning. sorry i like what i do. what the hell are they doing with thier lives?

9-5's they hate just so they can have money to buy a new ipod?

i mean, i cant stand my dads fiance, but shes a good person. we found 7 cats in my house im renting. one was amom. she took all of them home, took them to the vet, buys them food and tries to find them homes. shes turning into the cat lady cause she even made them all a special fenced in area so they can go outside and lay in the sun. if she cant find them a home right away, she keeps them all nice and cozy until she can...

i think we as a society we seg.w/ o realizing it. a lot of our actions are motion and not thought.

i dunno.

I feel your statement came at a perfect time in a imperfect world.  I have been struggling with that fact that I jave felt sooo bad lately because i lost someone i cared dearly about and your letter prompted me to reflect that even though the life i lead is not grand in many eyes I try to better person everyday.  As a single fatherof 2 girls working 2 jobs I donate money to places for children and I feel that I am making a difference in my own childrens lives by teaching them early that compassion is the ultimate tool the human race has to offer.....

Thank You Lacey we love you

A lot of what you said is true. Unfortunately, as a human I have some faults. I know you don't want to hear about my messed up family issues as a kid that reflect now. I tell you this though, I love animals (all of them). Even creepy crawly ones such as spiders, snakes, and scorpions. None the less, I still love all animals. It is a tremendous loss to lose Steve Irwin. He was courageous and cared for all animals also. He has added so much to the animal world. Granted, I have a scrolling sign on my web page that says "I am a product of your fing hatred." But the thing is, it is only a banner. Not really a meaning. Anyhow, to make things short. Music is my escape too. Can't call you fake for that. We all have to release somehow and I dig your music a lot. Indeed Steve Irwin will be missed around my house. My son liked the show as well as me and my wife. I really, truly appreciate this bulletine you posted. Really makes one stop and think. Take Care!            Larry

You said it, in a lot of ways.
There's a guy that lives on the floor right above mine that gone thru surgery and had to go to his mother's home for 10 days to rest... and left his dog on his apartment alone. The janitor comes in once in a while to look after the dog, but just to check food and water.
The dog is annoying, keeps barking and dropping stuff all the time, but FUCK, why can't this guy get the dog another home? Instead of giving the dog to someone that will look after it, he keeps the dog enprisoned, just to have "some company" when he eventually gets back.
This is just a small portion of the big selfish machine called mankind.

I like Nocturne, I love your vocals, I find you extremly beautiful, but I am now a true fan because you're INTELLIGENT. This is something rare to find of the big machine previously mentioned.

Kudos (more than just 2) + all the best

People don't exist, that's the problem. Earth is occupied by animals, plants, and minerals. Society puts it in our heads at a young age that we are neither, but instead some magical angel children of god creation. Were not. Were feeders and predators. Some few people are able to make a choice to live as something of their own choosing (mother Theresa), but mostly were just the same breed as the cat that tortures and kills the mouse for the fun of it, and not because it's hungry. It's to the few 'enlightened' people that the world's true coldness and cruelty is painfully apparent, as oppossed to the majority who see the constant tragedies in more of a "Isn't that a shame, oh well, at least it isn't me." type of way. The pack that is humanity doesn't survive on higher thinking and empathy, but rather ruthlessness and survival. The average person watches New Orleans drown on TV and feels bad, they feel sympathy. Those few who have stepped out of the pack, feel responsibility and act on it. People will feel and act just enough to make them think they are a good person who will someday die and goto heaven. They're lives are already over since they exist only to continue the cycle of our species and society. They might grow a mohawk or get a facial tattoo, but they're really not much different. Many of the victims we see on the TV are the same as the rest of the pack, and wouldn't do anything to help another person if there wasn't something to gain. Everyone always wonders at least a few times "What's the meaning of life, why do I exist?", but the answer is obvious, we exist to continue existing. "What's the meaning of life that gives me a greater purpose?" is just as obvious. Fix it. The pack has no personal purpose, they're waiting for god to deliver it. Were the ones who have received it and now live as something besides the rest of the animals, plants and minerals. Don't get dishearted just because the animals follow their nature. Be glad your not the only one who doesn't, and that you've been able to find others who are glad to have found you.

i too was deeply hurt to hear of steve irwins death.  he's done so much, i just hope others in his field can carry on the love, devotion and compassion he had for life and all animals.

Wow. This blog has given me a new outlook on the death of Steve. I never thought of it that way. I have looked at myself and realized that I am a good contribution to society. I am the guy at the supermarket that you ask a question and they reply in the kindest and sweetest manner. I am the guy that loves animals and would do anything for them. I am not blowing my own horn but...Beep Beep damn it. I pride myself on being the "nice guy". You make me proud to be who I am lacey because you appreciate the good people and you show it. Lacey I completely agree with you, and alot of the time I find myself  in these same trapping you know the whole fuck this and fuck that and I'm sure you have too, it's just trying to break out of that whole what' convenient for me attitude, but I do strive and thought there are setbacks, I keep going. I think part of te problem is that our society perpetuates that newer is better. I don't agree with this, but I do see it as the main cause of most social woes. It is too easy to consume and cast things asside, even at my own job I laughed when a girl traded in her pets because her dog wasn't a puppy anymore and wasn't one of those ultra-hip-ultra-tiny-puff-balls. And it really bothers me, it's a cycle that I feel we will never get away from being in style will always lnock out doing what's right. Gotta have an SUV it's drives gas prices up, and polutes the air like never before, but it's so cool! I need new clothes every damn week which really drives up the price of clothing, not to mention puts a strain on the textiles industry, so much so that it was entirely outsourced, so that the company could exploit third world labor pools. I could go on and on, But basicly in this country especially, no one works together, we don't work towards a common goal, we just think about me me me! And this affects everything, so stop buying so much stuff, organize, and stand-up for what you want. One little thing would be good, as long as it's the same thing, and getting everyone to agree that takes some work.

It is really unfortunate when a quality human leaves this world.   I live in San Jose CA.  If you ever have been out here or anyone who does live here knows that this place is really high stress and fast paced.  Not to take any credibility from where others live, just saying.  Anyway, I see so many people stressed out and just straight up rude to anyone, myself included because I have become numb dealing with how terrible people drive.  I drive for a living.  It goes beyond just being behind the wheel.  If only more people could let down their guard and stop being a fucking jerk long enough to read Lacey's message, I think a lot of good would come from that.  There are a lot of people who are just wasting resources without a care in the world because their cushy little world is just fine.  It pisses me off a little bit how people will make fun of a dead man who tried to make the world a better place.  After seeing a nice guy like Steve get thrown under the bus and how people turn into vultures in general when close friends die, it makes me sick.  I may be a little raw from a personal experience I had when a good friend of mine passed on.  Seems as if all the people who didn't give a crap otherwise or wanted something off of the name he had established were showing up out of the woodwork adding insult to injury.  Thanks Lacey for the thought provoking blog.  I have more of a reason to try a little harder every day to do my part and a little more.

Lacy, for what it's worth I've never considered you to be a fake. If I didn't see something real in you, Chris, and Rotny I wouldn't have gone out and purchased all your albums. I occasionally stop by your website, forms, and here, and you know what? I'm impressed each time with your thoughtfulness. It doesn't get much more real than that. And that's not just the fan in me talking.

Now on to something I do. LOL. It's simple and it works. I encourage people to use compact fluorescent light bulbs under the guise of saving money. These replacements for the average incandescent light-bulb consume only a fraction of the energy for the same amount of light. It saves on the bills and saves on the environment. And they last longer too... very convenient I've yet to replace one in the two plus years that I've been using them.

Steve impacted--and still is!--just about everyone not comatose. The educational value in his work cannot be understated. As someone who is deeply concerned about the quality of education in our schools this means a lot to me. I believe that only through free, open, and global education can we achieve peace with our environment, our governments, and each other. I encourage others to learn something new and useful every day. Although sometimes I think it's disregarded because my message is coming from the "uncool" persona of a nerd I often possess. Never the less I'll continue being me.

My feedback.  The cynic in me can't help but chuckle a little at how two/thirds of your responses seem to be motivated by flattery.  And the asshole in me can't help but voice that "concern".

But that's not why I write.  You should read J.M. Coetzee's novel "Disgrace" assuming you haven't already.  It's a short, necessary read and it reminded me of your post here.

Wow very interesting letter. I sure hope i could have met steve cause i sure as hell dont know too many people who have the balls to try to make a difference. I do agree that there are lots of things that we can stop doing if we're too lazy to lift a finger to start doing something simple to help the world just a little if at all. Now adays you can pick up a bag at your local cornerstore in which you can place your used cellphones or used printer cartidges so you can put the bag in the mail box and have it taken away to get recycled. How eazy is that? I hate to use this blog to talk about my self but let me bring up a good point. I almost killed my self one time because i came to the realization that most humans are worthless, and pointless pieces of a waste of every resource that this earth has to offer. And i'll even include my self in that some times but at least i stop and realize it and consider taking my self out of every one elses misery. the way i deal with my self is with the thought of one day accomplishing to donate blood and every one of my organs that can help another person live to at least have a chance to make a difference. I don't care if in the end there's nothing left of me, but at least another person could go free to move on and have the chance to put this earth to better use.

Albert

Yay Steve Irwin. I always admired him and his way of helping animals. Just think of all of the kids and adults that he has inspired, and brought education to about animals in need. I think it's commendable that a crocodile who maybe 10 years ago people would be scared of or grossed out by, through him they now see it as interesting and deserving to live. Both Steve Irwin & Jacques Cousteau inspired me to my life of fostering animals & birds.

Yay Lacey. It's great that you posted your 2 cents. We love animals, and I think that you showing your emotion onstage is valid and is much better than when others do it behind the wheel of their car, etc..

Lacey it's Ryan. long time no see. I'm still in Japan.  anyway Ill talk to you about personal stuff and catch up stuff later.

I was pretty struck when Steve died.  I met him one time, he was friends with Dr Ellen R, the woman I wroked with in Virginia before I moved. I am passionate like you about aimals and people. I have been working with Luaran Moret when she came to Japan to explain the effects of depelted uranium which the US and Israel dumped all over the MIddle East. Its also the real reason for botht e US and Russian invasions of Afghanistan, all the untapped uranium there. This shit never goes away and is killing plants, animals, people, everything. Big pharma iis profiting from the cancers it is creating, its all a big blood for profit circle. Anyway, for me that is a top issue, I dont think anyone can disagree with it. Once the environment is poisoned, thats it for the animals and the people and even the earth.  The people dumping DU everywhere dont give a shit. They aren't having kids and they"ll be dead, they just want their money now and they don't care what happened to everyone else or the earth.

Back to Steve. He was a great guy. I was so pissed when people said well thats what he gets for playing with deadly animals ect. First off he wasn't "playing" he was creating a new generation of animal lovers and fostering interest in the wonderful life on our planet including the "scary ones" which feeds into environmentalism and animal rights. His job was dangerous so is a fireman's or a cop or a wrestle or a journalist etc. Steve put a "face" on the animals like the way a journalist might risk going to Somalia or Sudan to give a voice and a face to the people there. It matters. Seeing it matters.

For the record, Steve was not being brash. My great grand father who grew up on our island and was by the sae his whole life and a professional fisherman once had a ray poke a barb throught his shin while it was still in a net. He had a dent in his leg forever. But he handled hundreds of rays before. But it takes just one, one unlucky one that can get a pro, even on the land. He was just very unlicky, and I am certain he was not provoking the animal. Crikie.

To answer some of your questions, I know how you feel. I don't understand some people. What was the nicest thing i did this week? I don't know. I had a group send food to North Korea where people are starving. I worked with 7 special ed students 13-15 years old and taught them some English and played games. I made a tape of a 1 year olds favorite commerical (a tarako pasta commerical with a cool song that he laughs at), he seemed pretty thrilled. I went with a firend to his first live poetry slam on TV and helped him get his nervousness out, I had a lot of ework to do but I went with him anyway. I have been doing my normal political stuff. I set up a Halloween party and decorations today for a Japanese school, it's a new holiday here. I went and talked to this youth gang of motor cycle kids who my whole neighborhood hates/fears. They are just kids who are board. They like me because they saw me do martial arts some time or another, so I was joking with them and told them not to drink, esp since they were all on bikes. They felt delighted to be spoken to. No one helps these kids, and they do as expected they will in up in bozosoku gangs and eventually into the yakuza. I decided to ride to the store with them and I got a bunch of pumpkins to carve.

Grass roots does work. Everyone doing  alittle matters. And it is even easier now that we have the web and a hole i the media monopoly.  I started anti-neocons/com with 1 person and now it is over 3,100 people with a over a million hits a month. I have had my myspace deleted 5 times for no given reason. Everyone doesn't have to be a super activist. When someone does some tihgn small even if it is just making a post on here saying stop factory farms or close the school of the Americas, it matters. I would have been burned out by now were it not for all the people writing me small things every day  from the US, Iran, Japan where ever saying thanks and keep it up. What you guys do is not in vain. Their is nothing more nobale than standing up for humanity. The TV fiction of some central leader hero figure is BS, all movements have been started and were successful because of many people doing many tihngs most of them unknown. They can throw a face on a movement if they want, but in reality that just isn't how it works. The same with Evil. Hitler didn't do all that shit alone, he didn't create fascism EVERY european country was fascist they carved up the Africans, Indians, and Native Americans without appology. WWII was the colonial bogots fighting one another over the things they had been stealing. Bush is not doing this crap to us. The multi-national facelss corporations mainly in Defense and energy companies with lots of little people doing little job unquestioningly create this beast.

Ray Van Horn,

There's not much I can say that no one else has, but I actually yelled out "no!" when I read he'd passed.  The world is an uglier place without him.  I keep wondering if his sacrifice was part of the grand scheme, a martyr's death, you know?  Hopefully Bindy and the family will keep his essence alive.  I truly miss the bloke.

Lacey, that post encapsulates so much of what is wrong with this world.  I recycle, and simply try to be more decent to my fellow man, and especially the animals of this world.

I am no angel, but all the little acts of kindness add up.  Thank you for encouraging others to do the same.

It is so "cool" to say "fuck it all", to say "I want to kill Muslims", "Fuck Iraq", etc.... yawn, how tiring, sentiments from third grade mentalities.   Well, this world needs aspiring individuals on the whole to start giving a damn now, not tomorrow, not next week.

Cheers, Michael from Serpent Speak

Lacey I totally agree with you and i just want to add that sometimes just volunteering your time can be just as sufficient as long as it is for the right reasons.

example: extreme makeover was in our town recently and everyone was so ecstatic they all volunteered.  Do they volunteer on a regular basis for things like habitat for humanity and so forth for the most part no.  Just looking for their 5 mins of fame.  The point is that yeah donate a dollar or do something good for a day but that doesnt make you saint and we should all strive to do something good even if if small everyday.  enough said.

coming for you

i feel where you are coming. most people do not understand that animals and everyother living thing have a meaning other than having people underestimate it. they were here way before mankind so i think we owe the land more than we have been giving it. i know how  people are i just recently had a friend talk shit about me in a song publicly and i didnt do anything to him you know i fell you on that issue too. also about people throwing shit out of thier car windows i hate it when people do that shit too. some of my relatives do that and i tell them that an animal can die but i dont think they care you know what i mean. well i agree with you all the way! late!

much Tainted luv

The longer the better I love reading!:D

I'm a nice person, very romantic also, I've been in a relationship for almost two years and fell in love, I do a lot for Roy. I do a lot for a lot of people like all the promoting I do for bands that want to be known because its I know how hard it is, you see all the bands that put 110% into what they do and no one knows them, its a total let down for anyone. I love meeting new people if they give me a chance to talk to them at least, i hand out with everyone and anyone when I get a chance to, if they don't get put off by me and how I dress or the musick I listen to.

I also donate every year in December to Wustoff Hospital for the terminally ill patients. Animals are great, I have two beautiful cats at home and donate to anything animal related i get a chance to, even if its 5 dollars or less, I'll still put the change I have towards it.

The death of Steve Irwin was totally sad, I watched his show a lot, hes got persafuckingverience of a saint with those alligators and such! I mean, he put his life in danger every day, just to teach us about reptiles and other animals, even if got bit that time, that didn't stop him! :) Ah, It was just a love bite thats all, lol! He had the greatest attitude ever to what he did for mankind.:D

Its funny, your blog made me simultaneously think of three things:
1. We played a show here during SXSW in Austin (we play pretty much ALL of our shows in Austin. Its kind of a function of playing them for free...) and as we get offstage this girl starts talking to me about how much she loved our band and how fun we were. Then she started asking about the struggles of being a musician and when I told her that no one in the band was a struggling musician as we all had careers which we pursue during the day she called us all posers.
2. When posed with the challenge of making the world a better place, so many people like to hide behind "I'm only ONE person". Sure, you are only one person. Do you know how long it takes to pull over, put a dog in your car, put him in your backyard and put a sign up on a stick with a description and your phone number? 20 minutes? 30 minutes? 45 minutes? Just that simple action can usually keep a dog alive and often make some family who is missing their companion very happy.
3. Racial slurs - Considering our band has a Caucasian Israeli Jew, a Lebanese, an Asian, a Mexican, a Puerto Rican, 2 Black Guys, a Panamanian who considers himself black during February, a White guy, and an Asian girl, I don't think we can go longer than 15 minutes without a remark about tortillas , matzo balls, fried chicken, or eating a dog. But given that, we people use racial slurs and they actually mean them its just their own insecurities coming to the surface. If you are comfortable in your own skin you don't need to resent someone else for his. Not to mention, racists are a dying breed. People have been forced to realize that though cultural differences exists, no one is "better" for their race.

Anyway, sorry for rambling but keep up the good work and don't let some douchebag who spends all weekend trying to out-emo his friends get you down.

i wouldn't suggest blood, just because it would almost have to be animal blood, thus defeating the purpose. although a huge bag of runny dog shit would do the trick.

Some things like these, are just so obvious to see that it pains me that people are so lazy or so hurtful enough to ignore them. There are so many little things out there that we can do, just watch an "Inconvenient Truth," there is a list on their that would tell you. Buy those bulbs that help out the next time your shopping for them. Recycle (this is one thing that I am having to get used to, I find it hard when there are not clear cut guides out there provided by my trash picker uppers).........It seems that when people try to do nice things they some how get casted out......such as this
There was a man who stopped near my hometown to help these "poor" boys by the side of the road that were stranded. He ended up getting stabbed and robbed by them.
What happened to people??? Have we always been this cruel. I used to pick up every hitchhiker I saw, until I started hearing things that could happen and now that I have a kid in the back seat I can't do it. Though it hurts everytime I see someone standing there out by the side of the road and I can't do anything to help.

As i do believe in helping others (mostly with time and labor), you must be careful to not get burned in the process..........do not give money to those companies who take the biggest percentages........do not give your things away to ones who wont donate ( like this time when i donated hundreds of dollars of clothes to this donation house who sold them, i thought if you donated they donated to people who need that stuff, but i found out that the employees get first dibs on the collections) just be careful out there. don't suffer because you are a good person. just because you are full of empathy, sympathy, compassion, good will and common sense, don't become a victim.....!!!!!!!!!!!

much love and warm wishes to you all,
beth

I'm glad you posted this. People will understand you alot more from reading this.

Our name is PAVMIRE (Vampire scrambled). We love vampire movies, our music is dark at times, and our stage personas our very aggressive and sometimes dark and sexual. however, we are some of the nicest people you'll ever meet, and absolutely respect and love people and animals. Most of all we are always grateful for our lives and the things we get to experience and the people we meet. That's how things are SUPPOSE to be- and people don't understand.

The people who think you're fake because you love animals, yet you're agressive and dark on stage... okay, that statement right there made us feel stupid just typing it. It's a dumb naive statement in itself. You have to have a balance, and unfortunately alot of humans are very UNbalanced. Unlike you and us, some people just don't "get it". Know that and you'll be fine. It won't get you down. If you know animals, then you know humans. the Human mind can be primitive, my sweet.

Be yourself, do your music, live your life, and as long as you keep doing what you're doing, and being the loving, respectable woman you are, great things will continue to come to you. Baby girl, if you don't have people hating on you, then you're doing something wrong. You better work on getting more than a THOUSAND haters. lol

You're famous, you're a beautiful intelligent woman, and you have a kind heart. you're smart and you know that not everyone will like you. SOMEONE will have something to say. Keep on keeping on.

Love & Light
