Hearing the deep, gritty voice conveying emotions of love and control, a listener would have a hard time believing Burlington musician Brandon Love is only 15 years old.

Already with a demo in hand, produced by Adam Farrell, the young musician is working on another album he plans to release later this month.

His next live performance is on Thursday, Aug. 16 at Velocity on Fairview Street.

DEMO II TO BE RELEASED

"I hope to have the seven-song CD released by the end of this month (August)," said Love. "I'm calling it Demo II."

Love started out in music in Grade 4 when he began playing the piano in school.

In Grade 7, he joined a band and continued to play into high school.

He taught himself the guitar and just over a year ago decided to start writing his own material.

Even though kids his age were listening to metal, he stuck with acoustic rock.

"Acoustic rock is easy to perform and work with on your own," he explained. "It also gives you a lot of creative freedom. There are no limits in this genre."

As such a young musician, Love has already encountered challenges as he tries to forge his way in the music world.

"Because my age group listens to metal music, it can be hard to get people out for an acoustic night," he noted. "Also, I'm missing out on the bar and club venues because I'm not of age. So I have to look harder to find venues open to youths playing music, not just people of drinking age."

Although he started officially booking his own shows just last year, Love has played frequently at Velocity and plans to perform at Toronto's El Mocambo on Wednesday, Aug. 22.

DRAWS ON PERSONAL EXPERIENCES

"I write about a lot of personal experiences as well as semi-fictional characterizations," said Love. "There is nothing directly related to anything, I just mix in experience to the songs so many people can relate."

Love plans to continue to perform and finalize the release of his recording. The album will be available at his shows.
