Great to be home after a few days in Idaho and even more in NYC.  Just got back from my lake trip with my buddies we take each year.  The theme was drinking in the morning.  But overall we were pretty chill this year. Great to just be up in the mountains with nothing but quiet and water...and a bloody mary.

I have to alert you to Wednesday.  We have a lot of love that day.  First off, Damien Jurado will be live.  He's our favorite and most frequent guest on the Morning Show and does the theme!  Then more love in the form of Stan Love, NASA astronaut.  He will be my guest on Wednesday.  What does this have to do with KEXP?  Find out Wednesday.

I hope you all have your BBQ Tix!!!!!  I'll see you Saturday, going to be GREAT!

top5The Top 5

Top 5 Lake Moments

1. The flight from Salt Lake City to Spokane.  Truly magic
2. Eating Fritos and beer for dinner the first night.  Suddenly I was 18 again.
3. Party boat.  Every year we end the trip by all getting on the boat with a lot of drinks (not the guy driving of course) and heading out.  Always fun.  This year we all got to see our buddy Darren get naked and jump off the boat.  Someone always seems to get naked.
4. Reading.  Seriously, sitting on the dock and reading is so good.  Then I read "A Short History of Everything"...I think that's the title.  It's pretty much how lucky we are to be alive on such a messed up planet and universe.  Live each day man.
5. The smell of 6 dudes in a cabin.  Even the screen porch stunk.

Subject: Iggy & The Stooges

Hey John! it's great to hear you again :) I saw Iggy & The Stooges live yesterday at Osheaga festival in Montreal (also feat. Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Spiritualized, Cat Power, Devotchka, ...) it was absolutely fucking great!! I think it was the best show I ever saw in my life, Iggy is completely mad on stage! well he definitely doesn't wear underwear, haha :D

so if you could play 1969 or No Fun that would be really cool!

cheers

Subject: Saludos de Bolivia

John,
You mentioned you were getting emails from all over this morning and I
thought, who am I to not write in? I am here in Bolivia for a year and I
listen to your show most mornings and I gotta say its the best treatment for
homesickness. As I am a volunteer here, I am in no position to donate money
to the station just yet, but when I am back in Seattle and making some money
I will for sure. Thanks for sending a little of home my way every morning to
San Ignacio in Bolivia, this Seattleite really appreciates it.

Could you fit The National-Fake Empire in at some point? Havent heard that
one in a while. Thanks man...

Re-Up Gang Set For August, Clipse Coming In November
Rap duo the Clipse is readying two releases: "The Clipse Present The Re-Up Gang" which hits shelves August 5 via Koch Records and "Till The Casket Drops" which is slated for November on Columbia Records.

Along with MCs Ab-Liva and Sandman, the Clipse formed the Re-Up Gang in 2004. Both Ab-Liva and Sandman gained recognition for their contributions on both Clipse' albums, "Lord Willin'" and "Hell Hath No Fury," as well as the "We Got It 4 Cheap" mixtape series. "The Clipse Present the Re-Up Gang," is spearheaded by the single, "Fast Life," which was produced by Scott Storch, and boasts three unreleased remixed tracks from "We Got it 4 Cheap Vol. 3."

"We put out the "We Got It 4 Cheap" series on our own and that kept us visible and built up the Re-Up name," says Pusha T of the Clipse. "This release gives us something fresh in the marketplace to reward Re-Up fans while we continue to work on the Clipse album."

Last year, the Clipse signed a five-year 50/50 deal with Sony/Columbia Records, which allows the pair to retain ownership of their masters and release independent records like "The Clipse Present The Re-Up Gang." "Till The Casket Drops" is the first record under the deal with Columbia.

In addition to collaborating with Columbia executive Rick Rubin for an as-yet-untitled song, The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams, Justice League, Sean C and LV, DJ Khalil Dame Grease have also contributed tracks to "Till The Casket Drops."

Reported by Billboard

SFA, Los Campesinos!, Mae Shi Play Standon Calling

With a name that borrows from the Clash, a humane and giving spirit is the least we could expect from the Standon Calling festival, and its organizers have delivered.

From August 1-3 in Standon, England, the festival will provide tunes by Super Furry Animals, Los Campesinos!, Acid Mothers Temple & the Cosmic Inferno, Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip, the Mae Shi, Melt-Banana, Johnny Foreigner, Wild Beasts, Glasvegas, Late of the Pier, Pre, Metronomy, Mystery Jets, the Maccabees, and ex-Orbital member Phil Hartnoll's new DJ duo Long Range, among many others.

As if Standon Calling hadn't given enough with that lineup, there is also the festival's tradition of giving a theme to each year's event. Standon Calling 2008's theme is, somewhat arbitrarily, Japan. The whole country. Look for a "dress-up session" and a "mystical soiree," according to a press release, among other Japanese cultural touchstones.

'You & Me' is available now

The Walkmen have announced that they are pre-releasing their new album today (July 29), with all of the proceeds going to charity for the next three weeks until its official US release on August 19.

The New York rockers are selling 'You & Me' exclusively via AmieStreet.com for $5, and the entire amount of each album sold will go toward cancer research.

"All donations go to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in honor of Luca Vasallo, a friend to the band and a current patient who is seven months old and doing a great job fighting a very difficult disease," organist Peter Bauer said in a statement.

The follow-up to 2006's 'A Hundred Miles Off' features 14 tracks including 'Dónde está la Playa' and 'In The New Year', as previously reported.

Legendary Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and equally renowned artist and producer Brian Eno have co-written their first album together in 27 years, entitled 'Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.'

The first track "Strange Overtones" will be available as a free download single from next Monday (August 4) from the released as free download single from the album and available from here, with the entire 11 track album being released on August 18.

The album is the first the prolific pair have made together since 1981's accliamed 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts' and Byrne has commented: "It's familiar but completely new as well. We're pretty excited."

Byrne and Eno came to working on the year-long project after reconnecting after the Nonesuch label's reissue of their first album.

Byrne explains, "I recall Brian mentioning that he had a lot of largely instrumental tracks he'd accumulated, and since, in his words, he 'hates writing words', I suggested I have a go at writing some words and tunes over a few of them, and we see what happens."

The two intend to tour together from this Autumn, starting in the US and reaching Europe in Spring 2009. The tour; 'David Byrne, Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno' will include the new material as well as Talking Heads tracks, as Eno produced several of their albums too.

Byrne explains the concept as: "The live shows will maybe try to draw a line linking this new material with what we did 30 years ago, a little bit anyway."

The full tracklisting for the forthcoming album "Everything That Happens Will Happen Today" is:

1. Home
2. My Big Nurse
3. I Feel My Stuff
4. Everything That Happens
5. Life Is Long
6. The River
7. Strange Overtones
8. Wanted For Life
9. One Fine Day
10. Poor Boy
11. The Lighthouse
