Chocolate Chiwawa x SONORE
We've just opened a SONORE corner in an awesome but tiny, select Tokyo (Koenji) fashion outlet called Chocolate Chiwawa. Sumakyu, the hugely talented and slightly warped Chocolate Chiwawa owner, has some really unique pieces on sale. From crafts and casual girl outfits to full-power drag queen extravaganza, Chocolate Chiwawa is also one of Tokyo's 8bit music hubs. We at SONORE are proud (to say the least!), to be able to beam ourselves down at last in one of Koenji's most mysterious and appealing clothes shops: Chocolate Chiwawa! (Map)

After the successful "LEX Sneak Preview" party, held in Tokyo on October 10th, we're now going to Osaka to celebrate the SONORE 10-Year Anniversary in collaboration with the Osaka European Film Festival and Club Noon. On Sunday 23rd of November, we'll be getting together with a selection of Kansai artists to be envied the world over! They include: Bebedelbanco, Bakirinosu, Oorutaichi, Craftwife, Baiyon, DODDODO, Maruosa and Volzoy, plus DJ *es (from Satanicpornocultshop) and VJs Shinsuke Yamaji (Catchpulse) + Kohji Kimura and Oshiri Sapphire! A line-up blazing a trail across ethnic murmur and hip hop and devastating electronica.

After the release of Akane Hosaka's debut album, Niko Niko Denki Muzic, on SONORE last June, now comes the brand new first album from Tokyo electro-fur trio applehead!! Titled ILCQ (I Love Chikyu), it contains 11 tracks of crispy electro pop that fall somewhere between techno and new wave (Devo, YMO). Mayutan is an extra-terrestrial android landed on earth by some curious coincidence. She met Fredy and Candy at the local R40 convenience store and together they started applehead. Based near Akihabara, applehead are part of the new techno pop movement currently taking over the Tokyo scene.

SONORE would like to introduce DODDODO's European tour. DODDODO is a young artist from Osaka who raps (in Japanese) while triggering samples of heavy break beat loops and Casio synths. She will play at the Alternativa Festival in Prague together with Akane Hosaka on November 27th, and then will tour Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, France and the UK. DODDODO live comes with a health warning; she's surprisingly explosive. The tour schedule is available here. DODDODO will also be appearing next year at the LEX 2009 festival in Nîmes (France).
http://sonore.ning.com/profiles/blogs/doddodo-european-tour-2008 Project OH!YAMA
Project OH!YAMA is a contemporary dance company to fall head over heels with. 5 determined young women whose approach to dance contrasts vividly with today's Tokyo scene. An indefinable charm combining group enthusiasm and sparkling choreographies. Project OH!YAMA will premiere their new piece on the 23rd and 24th of November in Kagurazaka Session House in Tokyo. We here at SONORE are ecstatic because Satoru Wono has agreed to write a new score especially for Project OH!YAMA! We're pretty damn impatient to check it out!

At the Make: Tokyo Meeting 2 exhibition and workshop which took place at the Tama Art University campus on November 8th, a truly astonishing Satoshi Hama installation entitled 'folklore / internet / recording' was on display. The installation consists of a computer program displaying a map of the world. By moving the cursor of the mouse you can pinpoint a specific zone and mix "natural" sound sources located nearby (water, frogs, voices, trains, cars), then mix and scratch them using a Ms Pinky vinyl record/software; a truly enjoyable new sound experience.
