Tonight we played to no one......
It's time to tell it like it is, being in a band in 2009 ain't the rock n roll trip it's made out to be in the NME, ... it's not fashionable, it's not lucrative and it;s definitely not forgiving.
It's simple there are too many bands, too many DJ's and too many shit promoters charging £5 a head to watch an assortment of unknown bands play while hoping they have enough family and friends to half fill a venue.
If your in a band you will know this, if you used to be in a a band you know this and if your dreaming of being in a band you should know this and take heed.
After 18 months of living in Leeds, after moving from isolated hills of Cumbria to find a following, after practicing two nights a week, playing every gig going and receiving no more than a few occasional beers for payment, after bloggin it, Facebooking it, twittering, B-Boping it, emailing left right and center, texting and bouncing around forums this friday we bribed our mate Martin to come out and watch us.... because if he didn't we were playing to no-one.
So band talk turned to planning the demise of Deathretro. To putting a sell by date on our musical endeavors. One year, balls out, one album, one winter, one summer season and if it ain't stuck then.......KILL THE BAND..... 'cos it's too much heart and soul required to spend another night spitting out your best to the bar man and sound engineer.
Anyways tonight was different, one song before we were due on Mike turned up to watch too.
So armed with a mini disk feeding live from the desk (delivered to the gig by our house mate Maggie after we had left it on the sofa) we played a gig to two close friends, the bar man and the sound engineer.
So for your listening pleasure here is DEATHRETRO LIVE AT THE PRIMROSE on friday the 22nd August 2009.
If you like it you can catch us live in the future, but don't hang around 'cos we wont be doing this forever.
Tomorrow we pick up the first mix of our next single (BLOOD / SEVEN STITCHES), it sounded HUGE in the studio, but then it always does. Fingers crossed it'll start the wave we have been pushing for and you will see us on tour in the coming months.... but for now we have been standing on the edge of nothing.... and we gotta start something.
