About new album Beautiful World - out Nov 20!

In the gothic heart of Hannover, North Germany, is where the new Rich Webb album Beautiful World took shape, in eight glorious days in the middle of 2008.

Among the dark churches, the vast inner-city gardens, and the eclectic indoor market, the Australian singer- songwriter found space during a European tour to take his band of Phil Wakemen (lead guitar), George-Savva Georgiou (bass) and David ‘Eugene’ Webb (drums) into the legendary Horus Sound Studio.

They went in with 11 new songs and some big ideas; they came out eight days later with a finished album.

Beautiful World is Rich Webb’s fourth long player and his most compelling and complete to date. It’s dry and angular. It’s rich, crazy, vibrant and intense. It’s at times crashing waves of nautical rock and at others it’s tidal and governed by the moon.

Simply, it’s a rock and roll band at the top of their game caught practically live at one of Europe’s finest studios. From the dockside loading shuffle of opener Gone Gone Gone, through the simple but devouring build of White Dove; the four-to-the-floor car crash of Loaded and the sublime hypnotic groove of Brand New Day; this is an album with inspiration to burn.

Then there’s title track, Beautiful World, the song around which the record revolves – part spoken-word gospel, part love of the world, and equal part wild-eyed disillusionment. It’s this landscape of contradiction that rules like a pirate flag flashing in among a sea of shimmering sunshine.

Much is about the execution here. Throughout it all, Rich’s dry and husky voice howls and shimmers like a dust storm from the Mallee desert; Phil’s see-saw guitars rock the boat then bring it home in among his crackingly precise backing vocal arrangements; while George’s innovative slippery bass weaves like he’s pounding the devil’s rib bone to David’s rock-solid metal foundry drums.

It’s a sublime combination, caught with serious audio precision, by engineers Howard Bargroff (Grace Jones, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Ministry of Sound) and Timo Soist. London-based alternative rock giant Chris Letcher added keys throughout, and mixing is by Australian five-time ARIA award-winner Paul McKercher (Cruel Sea, Midnight Oil, Pete Murray), who took the record from three dimensional to four!

First single, ‘Gone Gone Gone’ was out in Germany in late June and the full album release will be supported by a 37-date European tour which kicks off on 21 October.
