Did you know...People between the ages of 13 and 29 are contracting HIV at higher rates than any other age group?
HIV does not produce
symptoms until many years after a person is infected. The best way to know your status is to get tested
every year!
You can get HIV from exchanging body fluids (like blood and semen) and sharing needles with people who are infected with HIV.
You can protect yourself from HIV by:
- Waiting to have sex until you are ready and getting regular HIV tests for yourself
and your partners.
- Practice safe sex by using condoms, dental dams, and other latex barriers every time
you have sex.
- Always use clean needles and do not share needles with anyone.
It takes your body, on average, 25 days to develop antibodies if you are infected with HIV. If a negative HIV test was done within the
first 3 months after possible exposure, repeat testing should be
considered.
How does the test work?
There are several different tests you can take:
Standard Blood Draw - Blood is taken from the vein and results come back in several days.
Rapid Test - Uses either blood or a mouth swab and the results come back in 20 minutes.
