November 3, 2009 - Tuesday

Current mood:  anxious
We're super excited to announce that we'll be playing at the Blue Note in Columbia, MO on Saturday November 21st.  It's a free show, part of the Blue Note's New Music Night series.  Also playing is Slippy Larue, Bad Mellow, and the Unfashionables.   I believe we go on third.

Best part? THE SHOW IS FREE!!!! If you are in town and not busy, you have no excuse to not come to the show!

I've been going to Blue Note shows since before I could drive, and i've seen so many of my favorite bands play there - Jimmy Eat World, Iron and Wine, Band of Horses, Modest Mouse, Straylight Run, Mae.... and soooo many more.   Its a super historic venue, and its had everyone I listed, plus a who's who of music history - Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Wilco, Flaming Lips, Neutral Milk Hotel, Of Montreal, Cursive, Sunny Day Real Estate, Foo Fighters, Weezer...the list goes on and on.

The Blue Note is one of the nicest venues i've ever been to - its got great acoustics, a great sound system - and while being a huge room, still has a great intimate vibe.  We have such a hard time getting a good stage sound sometimes - considering our set up of an acoustic guitar backed by drums and bass.   I am excited because I'm sure the sound will be stellar, so this is a great opportunity to see us!

In other news...

We've got some other shows coming up:
Sat Nov 14 @ The Record Bar - Kansas City, MO - w/ Person L, John Nolan, Brian Bonz
Mon Nov 16 @ The Dukum - Kirksville, MO - w/ John Nolan, hereafterthis, and P3
Sat Nov 21 @ The Blue Note - Columbia, MO
Sat Nov 27 @ Bauhaus Coffeehouse - Farmington, MO - w/ The Firebird Suite, and more
Sat Dec 5 @ The Dukum - Kirksville, MO - w/ Marsyas & more tba
Sun Dec 6 @ Underground Cafe (Cherry Street Artisan) - Columbia, MO

after those shows (pending if we were to get lucky and get some awesome show), we'll be heading out into the woods to record our debut album.  We're doing it with our good friend, and essentially other MSO member...Lucas Oswald.   He's a good friend of ours that plays in lots of sweet bands... Minus Story, Hospital Ships, Old Canes, and he's even going to be touring on keyboards for the Appleseed Cast on their spring US and European tours.

He's a wizard with the button pushing, and he's going to bring his gear, we're going to bring our drums and guitars - and we're going to set up in a cabin in a remote area 20 minutes outside of Kirksville.   We'll do most of the basic tracking there - and then pack up and finish some overdubs in Kirksville (Vibraphone, Tymp's, Chimes, Bells, Whistles, Etc...), we'll also probably end up doing a lot of the other extra fun at his house in Columbia, as well as Lawrence possibly.   We've got so many idea's cooking for this that we're about to burst if we don't get this recorded soon!   We've also got lots of fun ideas for guest appearances that we're hoping to have all work out for the most part.

The plan is to then have the record mixed by someone else (in conjunction with our's and lucas's ears) and have it mastered.  We're aiming for a release date in early spring - and unless something happens with a label before that - we're planning on doing a special self-release version (probably limited to 500 handnumbered copies or something) while we try and get it picked up by a label for rerelease.

We're hard at work narrowing the tracklist down, and figuring out the order.  We've got the songs decided for the most part, its just a matter of making the whole thing fit and flow.   Also, we're always writing, so there is a good chance we'll have 2 or 3 more songs to play with by the time we get to the studio.   Until then we'll be demoing and demoing the songs over and over till we can walk into the actual sessions and nail this beast the right way.

This album is doing things to my brain that no project i've ever worked on before has.  It has consumed my every thought and breath, and it has made school next to impossible. I stare blankly at my professors while hearing beats and rhythms and melodies.  I have never been so excited about a project before.  I'm so excited to get this ball rolling, and to get these songs out the right way.  I feel like we've really been putting our all into this, and this record already has so many tears and sleepless nights from it's creation.

I should still be on target to graduate in May, and then we'll hit the road for the summer and move to Columbia in August.  Then we'll try and slowly build up our touring regimen with the hopes to eventually be touring a good chunk of the year.   Playing music and traveling with my friends is something i've been dreaming of for so long now, and I fee like we're so close to getting somewhere.

Thanks so much for all of your support thus far.  Every day I feel blown away and incredibly thankful for all of the amazing things we've gotten to take part in already.  This has been an on-going dream come true.   You have our eternal gratitude.
