Ladies, Gentlemen and everyone else, let me introduce Ryan Langlois. As I mentioned in the previous blog, he is originally from the state of Maine, but has lived in Texas since his early teens. Luckily for us, he is currently living in Galway city. I met him at an open mic a couple of months back and I've been loving his songs since then. Anyway, a little while back, Ryan decided that it would be good to do some recording while he was in Ireland. We started making demos of the prospective tunes on my laptop and polishing the songs. Knowing the finest musicians on the west coast, he assembled a band of them (Irish, American, Canadian and German in origin) and booked three days of studio time in the Forge on New Road, Galway, just a stones throw from the Roisin Dubh and Subway - sandwiches and beer being crucial to the creation of music.

Yesterday was the first day of the sessions. We got 5 songs recorded in six hours last night: 'Waits and other Cartoons', 'When', 'October Nights', 'Million faces' and 'Around the World'. The latter in particular was sounding great.

Ryan before the first take of the day.

The 1962 Vox with an american tele. Hmmmm. Tasty.

Playback.

For 'October Nights', we ended up just putting everything into the big live room: drums, guitars, bass, violin, Bazouki, Harmonica and 3 vocals. If the band is good enough - and it is- bleeding isn't too much of an issue and you end up with a much warmer take. Hoora for live recordings.
We're back in again this evening at six for another - hopefully - 5 songs or so. I'm sure once we get them done, they will be up on Ryan's myspace page - www.myspace.com/ryanandthelions
