I don't know.  Sometimes you just hit a hot topic and people just seem to come out of the woodwork in support of it.  I think that's where we're headed in 2009 with the Peace from the Porch Project's support of animal rescue organizations.

So I need some help!  Mostly, I need folks to spread the word.  Invite friends to the Bear Creek Concert events.  Invite them to become a friend here on myspace.  Or send them over the facebook.  I've got a great Peace from the Porch Project group over there that's really taking off.

Then I need help with promotion.  If you want to distribute a few fliers, let me know.  I can mail you some hard copies or I can email you the .pdf.  Give them to kind people you know.  Hang them where compassionate people hang out.  Or just tell people to check out bearcreekconcerts.com.

Not only is the season line-up amazing, it's such a worthy, needed cause.

You just don't know how many times I drive into town and see abandoned dogs on the little farm to market road I live off of.  People just dump them and forget them and convince themselves that good country people like me will pick them up and give them a home.  No thought for the cost of PROPERLY caring for one more animal.

I ride my bike to the end of Bear Creek Road, and I see men "training" their roosters for cock fights. I call the local sheriff's department and they don't do much.  It takes money and grit to put the pressure on the local law enforcement.  They know how I feel about them.  Most of the time, if I see a calf on the road, I herd it myself.  We're supposed to call the sheriff's department, but a calf is not a priority, so I have become very good at herding with my bike.  Actually, it makes sense because a bicycle makes very little noise, so the calf doesn't get spooked.

We're getting close to "kitten season."  All those un-spayed mama cats will be having litters they can't take care of.  All those strays will be looking for a handout.

More kooky old women will be discovered to have 200 dogs in their house.

That's what we want to stop in 2009.  Even if we can't wipe out suffering, we'll make our best effort, but it will be only as good as the support we receive, so help us out.  I'm  not asking you to give me money or even much time.  But I DO hope you'll come for the concerts.  And if you can't do that, you'll spread the word.

If you're a facebook denizen, search "christy claxton" or "peace from the porch project" group and join us there, too!
