From Vancouver, A Lengthy List of Lovers were to warm up the wide
age range of people already in attendance. After a draw for prizes A
Lengthy List of Lovers strutted on stage wearing some spacey looking
outfits that had vintage connotations of what the future should look
like. Making up the band were Alyson Fun on synthesizer/vocals and
Daniel Brard on programming/guitars. Using the programmed beats and the
abilities of the synthesizer, the group would get on with haunting
vocals and chord progressions while the guitar rocked out.
The
sound of A Lengthy List of Lovers has this feeling of The Organ in the
vocals and the synthesizer whereas the sound of the guitar slightly
emulated Doolittle era Pixies. At some point A Lengthy List of Lovers,
who are clearly older twenty-somethings, made reference to a movie
called the Wizard which was really a commercial for Super Mario
Brothers Three. It seemed to whoosh over the heads of all minus the
other older twenty-somethings. A Lengthy List of Lovers was a
delightful way to start off a good show.
