I must first apologize for taking such a long break! But you
will all be happy to know that I wasn’t being lazy, (ok, maybe a little bit at
times, but it was summer!) In between the occasional BBQ, or summer pool party
I was working pretty hard. I
believe I owe lots of blogs on a multitude of topics, and some of them were too
long ago to go into great detail. I apologize for that, but the new stuff is
interesting enough to make up for it I hope!
There were a couple shows in London, after a fairy tale-like
wedding in a castle in England… that was really fun! It has honestly been too
long to remember all the specifics about the shows… I remember learning a MJ
song last minute, starting late cause we were missing the sound guy, it was 134
degrees (56C, and for some reason
I don’t think jokes are as funny when conversions are involved), tiny rooms, awesome
fans, fun shows, much thanks owed to the girls at Sliquevents, and an all around good trip.
There was a New York trip with Riley and the fellas. Special
thanks to Jonah Dolan for accompanying me on the Cajon. (not to be confused with
cojones) It was the first time I’ve ever performed with a drummer, surprisingly
enough, and it was a lot of fun! I think it really added to the performance,
and it was definitely fun to have someone on stage to play off of. He played
the drums on about half of my first album and he’s playing them on all of the
songs on the second one. (More on that later!) The venues were both really
nice. The Living Room is true to the name, and Sullivan Hall was a great venue.
I have to admit, though, I’m excited to be back at the Bitter End next month
though! (More on that later as well. ;) Its always fun to travel with Riles and
Hank, and having Doug (on bass for TLOR), Jonah, my brother Matt, and our buddy
Mikey Roe there was even more of a blast. (also, I’m pretty sure he doesn’t read these, but just
incase, thanks for the couch Brandon!!)
In early August, we had the Hollywood premiere for Rock
Slyde at the Egyptian theater on Hollywood Blvd. It really couldn’t have gone
much better! Most of the stars were there. We sold out 700+ seats, for standing
room only, which was an amazing testament to how supportive our friends,
family, and fans are. (We were very apologetic for the $30 tickets, but we
didn’t set the price or get any of the proceeds… I think had we known we could
have sold 700 tickets at $30 a pop, we may have had our own little Feel Good
Film Fest. ;)) We did win the
audience choice award, and are extremely thankful for that. The feedback we got
was all extremely positive. The feedback we heard about from places other than
the sources was mixed. Lol. But that is to be expected. We made a quirky comedy
that not everyone is going to get. We were all (writer, director, and all
producers!) first timers, and our budget (I’m not sure what our official policy
is on revealing the true number, but I will say) was a minute fraction of what
even most indies take to get made… and our cast was impressive, so needless to
say, we were ecstatic with our finished product. Most importantly, it makes me laugh every time I watch it! We’ve
acquired a great sales team, and we’ve already sold it in some foreign
territories. We’re working out where it’s home is domestically right now, so wish
us luck!
I took a really fun trip to Boston, not work related,
actually, but it was a lot of fun, and I’m excited to be coming back to Boston
soon…(yes, you guessed it, more on that later.)
Over the past few months I have also been writing and
recording for my new album! I actually for the first time put all of the
(extremely rough) new songs in order and listened through from beginning to
end. I’m really excited!! There are really only a few songs anyone has heard
before, and even those sound so different with full production it will seem like
the first time you’ve heard them! As for the new ones, there are some in very
much the same vein as the first album, and a couple that I really tried to step
out on. I think they work, but ya’ll will be the judge of that. I’m so excited to get it out there. I can’t
believe it’s been three years since the first one. I also can’t believe all of
the amazing opportunities it, (and you!) have allowed me to have. We still have some work to do, a lot of
work to do in fact, but I’m really hoping to have this done before I head to
the east coast next month, and if that deadline proves to close for comfort,
I’m hoping that my shows in the UK in November are a good release date.
That brings me to the final, and for the purposes of this
blog, most important announcement… I may put this little announcement at the
beginning as well in case I lose some folks with the long blog. Lol. I’m coming
to the east coast for shows next month, and heading to the UK in November!
There are probably more shows to be added in the coming days, but right now,
here are the official dates! Please check the venue website for pre-purchase tickets on the east coast, and go to www.sliqueevents.com for the UK concert tix!!
