Wisdom and intelligence are not the same thing.

An intelligent person can solve puzzles and create strategies. An intelligent person can learn quickly. Given a goal, he or she will find the best way of achieving it.

Wisdom is deeper. Beyond knowing how to reach goals, wisdom knows which goals are worth pursuing. True wisdom involves not just the mind, but the heart also.

Psalm 119 is very long (176 verses!), and from start to finish, it's all about the goodness of God's commandments. Consider this passage:

"Give me understanding, and I will keep Your law
and obey it with all my heart.
Direct me in the path of Your commands,
for there I find delight.
Turn my heart towards your statutes,
and not toward selfish gain.
Turn my eyes away from worthless things;
preserve my life according to Your word."
---Psalm 119:34-37

Here we see that the first step in becoming wise is to ask for wisdom from God. The result is that the psalmist has no interest in "worthless things," but loves and delights in obedience.

How does this play out in the real world? Imagine a person who has just received a large sum of money. What would they do with it?

Intelligence says, "Money can be used to make more money. Here is a plan to get a lot of it."
Prudence, or worldly wisdom, is better. It says, "If I invest this carefully, I can provide for myself and my family in the long term."
Godly wisdom is best. It says, "Money is a gift from God, but it is temporary. I will enjoy it, but I will not let it rule my heart, and I will look for ways to use it to bless others."

Wisdom looks to God, and there it finds delight. Its priorities are godly, and wise decisions flow from a respect for God's wisdom and His Lordship.

In wisdom, there is great happiness. Consider these beautiful words from Psalm 119:

"I run in the path of your commands,
for you have set my heart free."
--Psalm 119:32

Wisdom is the choice of a heart set free.
