November 9, 2009 - Monday

Current mood:  vehement
Category: Music
Saturday Nov 7, Pawn Shop.

No Problems, Falklands, The Pack A.D., and SLATES

No Problem - to me seemed like no problem. Because really, I had no problem with them. Good fast punk rock that im typically in the mood for once a week. I really have no idea why they were there though. Seems like they shouldn’t have been opening, but it gave the night a good variety of different music. If you’re a fan of old hardcore punk, find these dudes and listen ot their music because you will like it I guarantee. Lots of crowd interaction made them seem like nicer guys than their music intended. Quote “Fuck Mon”. I just wonder why his guitar strap wasn't duct taped, it ended up breaking, so he left it alone and just ran the mic.

Falklands - are my favorite Edmonton band as of right now. As much as I love Christian Hansen & the Autistics, these dudes were awesome last night. They have grown as a band a lot since last time I saw them, and their on-stage energy was nice and high. A heck of a lot more than last time, which was nice, and it seemed like their chemistry was prime. I like the Falklands. Not to mention playing tambourine for them. Why the hell wasn’t I 2 steppin?

The Pack A.D. - was a hell of a lot different than I had expected. Originally thinking it was a garage-punk duo from Arizona, turned out it was.. I don’t know. I liked it. Not as much as I hoped. Being as much as I’m into Noise-Punk duo’s, I was quite psyched. It sounded like they intended on being a noise punk band, but took their influence from something like ACDC. It sounded alright, and Ill have to let you know my further opinions after I give the record a listen tonight.

SLATES - made me wonder a couple things. Where have I seen their lead vocalist before? And Why on earth did their guitarist have a bungee guitar cord? But to elaborate on the show, I had never listened to them before and I was reasonably impressed. Their drummer sure knew what he was doing, and their songs seemed well composed. All in all I had fun, even without knowing what was up. Why did that security guard have to be a little bitch during their set too? Horrible, I thought this was a punk show?

This picture reminds me of the clash for some reason.

Final thought : Do people in the states wear shoes in their houses? Or is that just on TV?
