RIP, Jack - Thanks for helping out Lucky 57 on guitar those times when we were in a pinch. You'll be sorely missed by all. A true great.

Richard J. Galvin (aka Jack Rootoo)
Abington, MA - Richard J. 'Rick' Galvin, 51, of Abington died at his home on Friday June 13, 2008 from cancer. He was the loving husband of Sharon (Ramdhan) Galvin and loving step-father of Brandon and Dylan Sookala and the son of the late Richard and Eva (Chase) Galvin. Richard co-founded "Lou Miami & the Kozmetix". He played lead guitar and performed under the stage name Jack Rootoo. "Lou Miami" was a well known Boston Band that toured extensively, released two albums and made several videos. In 1987 Richard joined the band "Girl on Top", opening for headline acts, such as Tracy Bonham, Goo Goo Dolls and Iggy Pop. In 1994 he became a member of the Orchestra for the Providence Newspaper Guilds notorious annual "Follies" revue, a mainstay of Rhode Island Politics and worked with them for 15 hilarious seasons. Throughout his career Richard was recognized by his band members, fans and fellow musicians alike for his consummate skill and outstanding versatility on guitar. Rick was soft spoken kind hearted. He would go out of his way for anyone. He loved good food and great company. He will be dearly missed by everyone he touched. He also leaves his sisters, Patricia Garber of Virginia, Janis Shepherd of Abington and Laura Herfel of Wisconsin. His services will be held Monday June 16 at 7 p.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel Plymouth St., (Rt. 58 at the rotary) Whitman. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be held also on Monday June 16 from 4- 7. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Charity of ones choice or the Benefit Fund at Citizens Bank, 36 Washington St., Norwell, MA 02061 for the family of Richard Galvin.
