The Blind Gate and 360 studio's is offering its first round of workshops and classes, open to the public in the San Francisco, bay area.
You can contact us at theblindgate@gmail.com for additional information or advanced sign up.
Circuit Bending, A Lo-Fi wet dream, the workshop, February 25th through March 11th, will be leading the way for a series of classes and events to follow.
Circuit bending is the creative short circuiting of low powered battery operated electronic devices to create new musical instruments.
Interested but not familiar with the process? Here's an example scenario, you've found a speak and spell at a thrift shop. You want to use it for your latest project but you need to get more out of it, something original you want to find a way to grab it by the testicles and make it scream. Circuit bending is that way.
Still interested but you're worried, the most complicated electrical procedure you've done to this day has been changing the batteries in your digital camera. Don't worry NISUS will lead the way, local DJ and guerilla fighter for THE MOVEMENT. He'll be our teacher for the workshop.
The class will start with basic soldering and electronics techniques then move into each workshop member building their own circuit bending instrument, so if you are beginner have no fear. Everyone will end up with at least one completed circuit bent instrument.
Do you feel like I'm speaking down to you, have you already opened up your thrift store key board and added so many switches it can now remote pilot the space shuttle? The work shop isn't just for beginners. Bring down your favorite circuit bent instrument and beverage of your choice. Show off your toys, start a new one, collaborate on a project. As well as spreading information the workshop is about having fun and working together to create something new.
The Workshop will consist of three classes on Wednesday's, February 25th, March 4th and March 11th from 7:00pm till 9:00pm.
We will provide: The knowledge and experience and every tool you need to get started. Soldering irons and solder, potentiometers, switches, wire, small screw drivers, etc. You get to take the tools and components home with you, your own circuit bending kit. It's all included as part of the workshop.
What you need to bring: You will need to bring your own inexpensive electronic audio device, examples; a toy key board, a speak and spell, in short any low voltage, battery operated child's toy that goes beep. Caution avoid devices with safety screws unless you can afford the special safety bit. Also bring a friend, beverage of choice or mixed CD. This is a collaboration about getting together and having fun as we learn and share.
We are proletariats bent on making information and education accessible to all regardless of class divisions and racial boundaries. We laugh at the fiat system and the gold standard alike. That being said said the class will cost $45 dollars, which covers our cost on tools and supplies. If you bring our own tools and components, just donate a couple bucks at the door to help us keep things going.
There is limited space for all workshops, we ask that you sign up in advance so that we can best facilitate everyones needs but walk ins are welcome, we understand your fear of commitment.
