Hello everybody,

Word is that the MySpace footer which runs across the bottom of the default MySpace template and looks like this:

About | FAQ | Terms | New Privacy | Safety Tips | Contact MySpace | Report Abuse | Advertise | Jobs | MySpace International

©2003-2007 MySpace. All Rights Reserved.

...is now mandatory. That is, we are no longer permitted to hide these links or the copyright notice.

Why there is no mention of this in the MySpace Terms of Use agreement or why there is no advisory on the ’Profile Edit’ page similar to the one we see about not hiding the MySpace advertisements, I can only speculate.

Perhaps MySpace doesn’t want to make a big deal about imposing too many restrictions on how users may customize their pages (which is one of the biggest advantages we have here over Facebook). Which then leads me to believe that the people who actually got their profiles deleted for not displaying the footer links --yes this is starting to happen-- were also engaging in other prohibited activity on MySpace like spamming the network and whatnot.

Once again though, this is pure speculation.

I myself only heard of this through sheer chance because I happened to be looking through the MySpace forum last week on a completely unrelated matter and I noticed a recent post stickied by a forum moderator regarding ’bottom links’. Also, I’d like to mention that people have been using Rob Thunder DIV layouts (all of which formerly hid the MySpace footer) for the past year and a half and no one has ever emailed me about getting their profile deleted for hiding the MySpace footer.

Be that as it may, I have decided to fully comply with this ’no-hiding-the-footer’ rule and as a result, all Rob Thunder DIV layouts and all Iron Spider MySpace layouts have been updated to display the footer.

ALL USERS of Rob Thunder layouts are urged to update their layout codes by running through the layout generators at robthunder.com, getting the new layout code and replacing your currently installed layout code with that. (Be advised that the plain black overlay and the plain white overlay have the MySpace footer links built right into the layout, i.e., they appear in the right column under the ’MySpace Stuff’ heading. Below that you’ll see the required MySpace copyright notice appear at the bottom of the menu in the right column.)

As for Iron Spider layouts, most of them formerly displayed the MySpace footer by default but not all of them. If you’re using an Iron Spider layout, go to your profile and scroll to the bottom of the page. If you do not see this:

About | FAQ | Terms | New Privacy | Safety Tips | Contact MySpace | Report Abuse | Advertise | Jobs | MySpace International

©2003-2007 MySpace. All Rights Reserved.

...then you are using an OLD Iron Spider layout that hides the MySpace footer. You should return to the page at Iron Spider where you got your layout from, get the NEW updated layout code and replace your currently installed layout code with that.

Alright then, that’s it...

Have a good one!

~ Rob
