Gamer Star Amber Valletta Talks "Life or Death" Entertainment

Amber Valletta, Gamer
In the new sci-fi thriller
Gamer, model-turned-actress
Amber Valletta plays Angie, the wife of a convict named Kable (
Gerard Butler)
who is forced to play a virtual-reality game called "Slayers." If he
wins, he's freed. If he loses, he dies. (Think of an online
Running Man.)
"Of course, no one's ever won," Valletta says. "Society has [reached
a point] where people are so desperate that they are willing to
participate in these games," she tells TVGuide.com of the terrifying
gaming-justice hybrid.

While the film's premise might be considered far-out, Valetta thinks
it's just an exaggerated extension of what society is already doing
with technology. "It gives me such anxiety!" she says. "I've read about
nanotechnology and it's scary. They need to get some laws and set them
real fast, right now. There's nothing. There's no regulations. There's
already so many products on the market."
Gamer hits theaters on Sept. 4 and also stars Dexter's Michael C. Hall (as the game's creator), Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, John Leguizamo, Alison Lohman, Heroes' Milo Ventimiglia and The Closer's Kyra Sedgwick.
