Anyone up for a quick 6 hour roller skating dash around the world with some funky, disco, asian, afro, latino music thrown in? Well on Friday 20th July for one night only you can do just that in the fantastic company of the world famous Norman Jay, MBE (Good Times), cheeky chappy and Radio 1 darling Nihal (Bobby and Nihal show) and Russ Jones the Hackney Globetrotter of Future World Funk fame. Actually the journey will only be within the London Borough of Hackney or to exact in a clockwise circle around Spice House (Ocean) however the music and atmosphere will most definitely be global and on roller skates.
For this event Hackney Globe Trotting and Russ Jones called on old friends at Fenchurch to team up with them as part of The Hackney Empire's two week long arts and music Spice Festival, which celebrates the diversity and creativity of one of London's most happening borough. What better way to do this than with what has to be one of the biggest hits of summer 2007- Roller Discos and where else could it happen? Hackney is the one of the most culturally diverse places on the planet. FACT! It has one of the biggest populations of artists, creatives and up-for-it young party revelers in the whole of Europe and is basically where it is at! The musical entertainment for the night will be a representation of all that is Hackney with a nod to to the classic era of Roller Discos circa 1980 and is bought to you a buy a truly diverse and funky line up of DJs.
Headlining is the man we all know and love Norman Jay who was a roller skating soul boy the first time round circa 1980. Representing the east London Asian community and world-wide b-boy fraternity is Nihal who delivers the best mix up mash up of old skool party hip-hop and Asian flavas ( he has never before spinned alongside Norman Jay and both are Spurs supporters). Finally filling in the musical gaps is Russ Jones, known for his ground breaking fusions of the most irresistible dance music from around the planet and the long running global beats night Future World Funk. This summer he is or has been at Glastonbury, Stokefest, Paradise Gardens, Isle of Wight Festival, Womad and Bestival.
ThIs event will receive support from Skating Heaven who organise the Friday night flash skates around the Westend and the skate jams in Hyde Park every weekend (if youv'e not seen the flash skate it is truly a sight to be seen) and will be in association with Fenchurch, the uber cool street, urban skate clothing company.
And what better venue to hold it than Spice House formally The Ocean. Its shinny, sparkly, has a state of the art sound system, amazing visuals and one whopping great big super smooth dance-floor!
