EMERGING PROMS
Strange Brew has been pulling lovers of new live music into the Roundhouse since October 2008. The people between these hugely successful nights have put together an exciting line-up of 'about to blow' acts for a night of eclectic good vibes ranging from the best in Acoustic Soul, Live Hip Hop-Jazz, Pioneering Electro and Jump Up Reggae Music.
Hosted by Aruba Red and Riz MC Aruba Red Performing a provocative blend of poetic reggae and experimental styles with a passion for lyricism and soul at their core. She has impressed audiences with her fiery acoustic sets, and toured with artists such as Natty and Fat Freddy’s Drop. Miss Red and was named 'Emerging Artist In Residence' at London's Southbank Centre and is currently recording new material both in Jamaica and the UK. http://www.myspace.com/arubaredmusic Speakers Corner Quartet Speakers corner quartet formed as the house band for the infamous hip hop night 'Speakers’ Corner' in Brixton, London. It’s hard to describe what they sound like, Speakers Corner Quartet are a mixture of asian, classical, jazz and hiphop but lets just say they are good. http://www.myspace.com/speakerscornerquartet Maverick Sabre London born, Irish raised singer songwriter Maverick Sabre has a soulful voice and skillful guitar playing. He is rising from strength to strength, sharing stages with artists such as Get Cape, Wear Cape, Fly and Bashy. He’s most definitely a young man whose musical journey should be followed closely by many. http://www.myspace.com/mavericksabre Jamie Woon Jamie Woon is a singer-songwriter from London whose stirring sound is a fresh and atmospheric take on R’n’B with an indefinable yet distinctly British slant. Iron Braydz has rocked audiences alongside members of Hip Hop royalty including M1of Dead Prez, Public Enemy, Saigon, Guru and RZA of Wu-Tang Clan. Not afraid to deal with politically controversial content in an intelligent and thought provoking way, Iron Braydz has solidified his presence within the UK Hip Hop scene with his unique style. http://www.myspace.com/gmabraydz Jem Cooke With a voice to soothe and compel her audiences, she sings to the sound of crisp guitar played by 'Dangerous Dave' and her seemingly effortless energy that comes through her voice is infectious. Marrik exports an original and explosive blend of UK Hip Hop and will be performing an exclusive set with the Strange Brew house band. http://www.myspace.com/mldmusicnow Betty Steeles This feel-good singer-songwriter combines the odd and kooky with the playfully rich and uplifting. Betty was spotted tinkling away on her guitar in the park and after being invited to compete in the Nokia Unsigned Competition she ended up performing at Reading Festival. Her adorable voice and eccentric live show have left audiences all over London wanting more. http://www.myspace.com/iambettysteeles DJ Snuff Snuff is often credited as being the backbone in the cultural development of Hip Hop in the UK.
