“Three rules of work: out  of clutter find simplicity, from discord find harmony; in the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.” Albert Einstein
Each month I divest myself of at least 27 things. I don’t know where this number came from but it resonates with me. I imagine I probably read it as I was exploring the concept of feng shui- the art of placement of items in ones environment to create peace, abundance and inner harmony.
I challenge you, as the weekend is upon us and malls and stores advertise sales,  to gather 27 things from your environment with the intent to sell, redistribute or donate the items.  As we work to better ourselves and create peace and tranquility, we often find the thinking of things to buy, the acquisition of items and the subsequent storing, maintenance and daily upkeep of said item becomes a burden.  Clean a closet and discard, sell or redistribute items you no longer wear.  Clean a shelf and donate items to a thrift mart or church sale.
We can think of “things” as sticks and leaves in the streams of life. If we continue to allow them to build and collect, eventually they block the flow of important and meaningful paths to progress.
Twenty seven things.  I challenge you.

We can't create more time but we can create more space which allows for better use of time which may in fact be creating more time. besides health our environment is the world we live in. worrying about the planet while ignoring our own space is futile. Your post may truly be what we really need to do in order to change things. Stuff must go so life can grow and then we notice what we have and the people in the room that love us and we can breath and cuddle with the precious moments, but only when we can walk around the room and turn off the noise of media chatter and finally hear a bird sing or a breeze blow just in time to remind us that we are part of life and part of the world. Things separate us from life, while space gives us the stage on which to live it. now shut up and go watch Pirates of the Caribeean 10 and eat some fried twinkies. Hee. love you tammy.

Thanks for these insight, Tammy. You inspired me to reduce my own clutter. It's amazing how reluctant I am to give up this stuff I know I really don't need. I've collected about 15 things (clothes) so far, which is pretty pathetic, really. But I'm thinking of a slightly different approach of deleting one item a day...

Jeff Mosier just wrote something profound.

"things must go so life can grow...."

Jackie I am proud of you clearing things out. It's odd how much we hang on to ---- i'm always busy finding new homes for "things" ...

Thank you jackie for being the amazing and incredible person you ARE!
