The great Nashville-based blues guitarist and songwriter Johnny Jones, who had a more than half-century recording and performing career, died earlier this week. Jones was a major influence on Duane Allman and on Jimi Hendrix, who, along with bassist Billy Cox, played with Jones in the Nashville band The King Casuals. Check out the Casual's tribute to Jimi, cut in 1968: Purple Haze! He will be sorely missed.
Doc Blakey / Johnny Jones

Johnny and I have toured together for the past 5 years and was my biggest blues influence.  Ive known him since i was a child and life is certainly going to be different without him, especially my live performances.

Doc, from me personally and everybody with the Nashville Blues Society, we are sorry for your loss. I know you and Johnny were very close. Everybody loses when somebody like Johnny passes away, but his dear friends like you and his family are more deeply touched. Sincerely, Ted D/NBS
