The autumn season is a very grounding time of year. Inevitably, people begin to slow down, stay in, and rest up. All the energy we splashed around in during summer is darkening. All the focus on the outside world seems to turn inward as people begin to hibernate in their homes. But the energy in us and around us does not decrease. It is still potent and powerful, yet it is now the soft yin energy of the darker months that replaces the hard yang energy of the sunnier months. And as it transforms, so do we.
My world is very small right now. I am focused on being still, on seeing what is in front of me and spending lots of time with that. It seems I must take things more slowly right now in order to connect with the flow of what's happening around me. I had been fighting that change in current, but finally surrendered to it, and I feel so much more peaceful. I am enjoying these deep and still times, they are enriching to the soul. And i love the extra blankets on my bed and being wrapped inside of cozy sweaters.
So, maybe some of you have been battling the post summer blues and slowly adapting to the longer, colder nights. But I'm sure others have been embracing and quickly enjoying the new season. Wherever you're at, isn't it amazing to watch as nature responds to the change in the earth's position? Isn't it fascinating to see as we too respond to that change? With every new season, it's a chance to experience the vast dynamics of our human nature. And that's a beautiful thing.
