Saturday night, 10/25, 7pm. 179 Powers St.
Off the Graham Ave stop on the L.

The word is on the street, and the word (just this once) is not "bird".

Through liberal use of grit, liberal whittlings of shoeleather, and liberal questioning about "what brown can do for you," The Flanks have produced their newest album, Field Days.

We had a good long think about where to have the release party. In all honesty, I just don't trust the taps at bars any more, and the change in my pocket has a much thinner cadence these days, so I can't frequent the local constabulary as much as is my wont. What, I wonder, is the solution?

The solution is this. The CD release party will be at a private residence. 179 Powers Street in Williamsburg, a cavernous location with high ceilings and good plumb lines. It is the apartment of dear friends of ours, ever so generously donated for the evening.

For $20, you are given entrance, a CD, and all the beer you can drink. You are your own bartender. If you feel the need to cut yourself off or explain to yourself that the 2 for 1 special doesn't cover bottled beers, feel free.

And, in addition to beer and a CD, the charge allows you to see some of our nearest and dearest friends perform.

At 7pm, Andy Mullen shall open the evening with some square dance calling and then some musical stylings that could sway the coldest of hearts. A man so gifted he is often only referred to as "The Professor".

At 8, Al Duvall will take the stage. If there's a soul among you who has not seen Al Duvall, this is your chance to make amends. I secretly want to make an entire album of Al Duvall covers. I have an Al Duvall tattoo. Ok, it's Henna, but still. AL DUVALL

Then, at 9, The Flanks will get up there. Then we'll get down from there.

Finally, to close out the evening circa 11, Alex Battles and the Whisky Rebellion will sturm your spirit and drang their fretboards. As far as I know, and what I don't know in this town ain't worth knowing, they first "turn this mother out" and subsequently "tear the roof off the mother-sucker".

It is my hope, my dream, that as the evening progresses, more and more people join in the music. We all know the chords, don't we? We're no strangers to harmony, are we? It's not a show, it's a party.

Much excitement, and I trust I shall see you there.
