The Anatomy of Pain was recorded in The Salem Studios in Hareskoven, a small suburb to Copenhagen. The house was built in 1919 and has 18 rooms. In the basement Salem occupy a few rooms. As opposed to the recording of "I Kicked the Dog" there was a plan and a tight schedule to finish "The Anatomy of Pain" within the span of a few months. The equipment had been upgraded as well with one of Georg Neumann's microphones and a 16 track analogue Tascam tape recorder. Additional musicians were used as well. Peter Kehl helped to upgrade the Trumpets and Flügelhorns, Kenni AJ gave the Drums a more lively and intense role. On the bass Michael Friis helped upgrade the groove of especially "Jerusalem", "The Big Sleep" and "The Death of a Farmer". Perry Stenbäck played some vital banjo on "The Death of a Farmer", acoustic guitars on "Jerusalem" and pedal steel on some more tracks. Bjarke Falgren excelled in the strings on "I Love the Avenue" and "Seven Gallows" and Povl Kristian played singing saw on "One Grain of Tobacco" along with Perry Stenbäck on the swedish Nyckelharpe. Jonas Berg also played accordion and keyborards on "I Love the Avenue"...
