The promotional campaign for MEDEA has started.
As you might know we are the live-soundtrack for a theatre play of the myth of MEDEA.
In this performance the young company In Vitro battles against the end of time. (Topical) apocalyptic visions, doom scenarios and prophets of doom are set against the tragedy of Medea; the gruesome but also very topical myth of the provoked mother who sends her children to their death.
In Vitro allows the world and the future to head irrevocably for disaster, without catharsis or hope. They are assisted in their endeavour by texts by Heiner Müller, live music by Dirk Veulemans and The Black Heart Rebellion, a mezzo-soprano, performers and dancers.
Het Troubleyn/Laboratorium, which almost went up in flames in 1974, seemed to be the ideal setting for this Utopian Apocalypse.
Jan Dekeyser and Daphe Kitschen met through Jan Fabre. Together, they have been In Vitro since 2003. For the creation of Medea they are also joined by Elly Van Eeghem.

Apocalyptische visioenen en doemscenario’s zijn van alle tijden, maar nu gaat geen dag voorbij of we worden geconfronteerd met nieuwe onheilsprofetieën : klimaatswijzigingen, ontbossing, tekort aan drinkbaar water, uitputting van natuurlijke grondstoffen, vervuiling en tanende biodiversiteit, toenemende onvruchtbaarheid, demografische explosie, de groter wordende kloof tussen arm en rijk, …
IN VITRO brengt haar eigen interpretatie van deze thema’s en plaatst daarin de antieke tragedie van Medea, het gruwelijke en actuele verhaal van een getergde moeder die haar kinderen de dood injaagt.
In een mix van entertainment, performance, dans, muziek, en de tekst van Heiner Muller, laat IN VITRO de wereld en toekomst onherroepelijk ondergaan. Zonder hoop.
In deze waanzinnige catastrofe komt de mythe voor het laatst tot leven en plaatst IN VITRO de antieke wereld versus de hedendaagse samenleving, daags voor de ondergang.
De muziek is van Dirk Veulemans en de jonge Gentse groep The Black Heart Rebellion, samen met de mezzosopraan Inez Carsauw die liederen van Strauss, Wagner en Mahler brengt.
Performster en choreografe Karolina Wolkowiecka krijgt versterking van de danseressen van de dansstudio Chantal Tyncke.
Concept : IN VITRO / Daphne Kitschen, Elly Van Eeghem en Jan Dekeyser, gebaseerd op het verhaal van Euripides.
