Friends,
From day to day we will post short updates of our adventures in Japan.
After three days we decided to share them because it is just totally crazy.
Tim, Tomas, Vally, Alex, Emeriek, Pieter, Ruben
DAY ZERO
- Doesn't exist. We've lost 8 hours while flying through timezones, spent 12 hours on a plane, 2 hours in a car, and 5 hours waiting on the airport. Left Belgium 6-11-2009, 9 a.m. Arrived in Japan on 7-11-2009, 9 a.m.
- Our friend Silas travelled with us to Japan. He's going to live there for a while and do an internship graphical design. Silas is cool, check out his zine 'Kino'!
DAY ONE
- Arrival at Tokyo, Narita Airport. Meet Kimi, Kouta, Shima. So great to see these people after such a long time! All of us a bit dizzy after the long flight, but very relieved to find our friends there waiting for us.
- All is white and so clean. First encounters with the countless vending machines along the road and the Japanese Green tea – unlike ANY green tea you've EVER tasted.
- Parting ways with Silas, he goes to stay with a friend.
- Car drive to Kawasaki, first time on Japanese roads. Amazed by the endless skylines of buildings and a bit afraid to drive on the left. Luckily we have great drivers (Kouta and Shima).
- Realising we can't read ANYTHING on the road signs, advertisements, ... and that touring here wouldn't be possible at all without the help of our friends.
- First time in a supermarket. WTF. Lost in translation, ok, BIGTIME. A lot of things we've never seen before. Chips with squid that turn out to be tasty. Allright, this sets the tone…
- Toilets are quite a unique experience. Ever tried to use the toilet and shower at the same time? Come to Japan.
- Go to sleep in Kawasaki. First encounters with Japanese studios. Small rooms with Tatami mats and slidedoors. Really cosy but a big difference to what we're living in. But of course that's what it's all about.
DAY TWO
- Taking the famous Metro to Tokyo. On a sunday so it's not busy. Yet.
- Meeting The Caution Children, Miwa, Chiro, Silas and hanging out at the most busy crossing in the world. 3000 people crossing every time the lights go green.
- Visit to a Temple and saw a traditional wedding. Beautiful nature, buildings and impressing gateways in the heart of Tokyo City.
- At night we went to the house of our labelboss, Kimi. Had a very warm welcome there. Kimi is cool. Kimi's mom is cool! Delicious dinner and a beautiful place to sleep. Kimi's mom is coming to 2 shows of the tour. She's so sweet!
DAY THREE
- Kimi goes to work, we decide to go to Tokyo alone.
- Went to visit the Hiatt Hotel, the one from Lost in Translation. Had a great view on the Tokyo skyline.
- Off to Akihabara by subway. Akihabara is called 'electric town'. Hundreds of electro stores on the first floor, and porn stores in upper floors. Disturbing, really WTF & FTW.
- Went to a Japanese arcade to wash out the sickness. And replace it with more sickness. Videogames that make you go nuts. Just being there makes you go nuts actually. White noise.
- Monday evening, trying to get back to Kouta and Shima. FAIL. We lose Vally and Emeriek in the busy subwaystation. Hundreds of people, no working cellphones. One hour later we get back together and all is fine.
- Drive to Yamanashi, birth's hometown and our hide-out for the next days.
DAY FOUR
- Wake up at Kouta's house and we drive to Mount Fuji. All of us were looking forward so eagerly to this! Mount Fuji is the biggest active volcano in Japan. Barren lands, tons of pictures and almost killing ourselves running up the hill. Epic pictures in the tour report, get stoked.
- 100 _Yen Shop. Similar to 1 euro shop or 1 dollar shop. Yes they have them in Japan, yes we've bought the same crap you can buy everywhere.
- In fact we went there to buy a towel for a hot spring. DAMN that was cool. TBHR&birth sexy-time with an awesome view on the countryside of Japan.
- From this relaxing experience to the total opposite. After all, this is Japan. A huge discountstore filled with nothing you would expect. Lack of time, will go back tomorrow.
- Evening: Kouta, Shima and Kenji from birth cook for us. Totally amazing food and such great guys.
Can't wait to start playing shows here. Friday is the first.
We'll fill you in on all our adventures, stay tuned!
Tim
