Golden Turd
It's no secret: I love "The Golden Girls." That damn show was friggin' funny. Thank God that Lifetime plays the hell out of that show.
Recently, Lifetime added the post "Golden Girls" CBS spin-off "The Golden Palace" to their schedule. I hadn't seen that show in like 12 years, and I was excited to see some fresh "golden" material. Well, folks, there's a reason why "The Golden Palace" only lasted one season - It's a steaming pile of shit.
But it's still fun to watch. Like a train wreck. What's so baffling is how anybody thought this show would work. It's missing the most important ingredient: Bea Arthur as Dorothy. But that doesn't stop the rest of the golden gals from referencing her constantly in the Palace. Cheech Marin as Chuey is a waste of dialogue, and one of our best actors, Don Cheadle, doesn't have any comic chops whatsoever. He's painful to watch as Roland.
And what might be most shocking is that some of the writers on "The Golden Palace" include Marc Cherry - who created "Desperate Housewives" - and Mitchell Hurwitz who created the brilliant "Arrested Development." Guess you gotta start somehwere...
