Hello Bruised Fruiters and Welcome to July's installment of Bruised Fruit News.
Our regular UITA shows are taking a summer siesta until September, but we've got plenty to keep us busy until then!Firstly can I say a massive THANK YOU to all our volunteers who helped out at last week's Willowstone Festival. John, Cheryl, David, Rebecca, Dierdre, Rachel, Hannah and Jenny T. We couldn't have done it without you.
I'm looking forward to meeting my new team of volunteers who will be working alongside myself and the team at this year's Trans Festival. The Event Management course (which sold out in record time!) starts on Monday as part of the ....Urban.. ..Arts.. ..Academy.... @ trans. Most of the regular courses are now sold out, but there are still some spaces left on the weekend MasterClasses in the following areas:
Songwriting - Tips and techiques on song structuring, rhythms, lyric writing and more.
Creating Music Videos - Learn how to chop, slice and edit video clips and then use special effects to create your own music video.
Each course costs £25 to attend and lasts 2 days. There are also bursaries available to people in special circumstances. More information at www.transbelfast.com
Also as part of trans festival, Bruised Fruit have teamed up with a host of other local promoters, industry organisations and media outlets to bring you trans:mission - a celebration of all that is good and great about NI music.
The 3 day mini-fest takes place between 8-10 July and features over 20 bands as well as industry networking and the premier screening of 'A Little Solidarity' documentary.
The bands that made the cut are..........The Lowly Knights, Panda Kopanda, Seven Summits, John Shelly and the Creatures, Desert Hearts, Dutch Schultz, Strait Laces, Before Machines, Moon Unit, Skibunny, Nakatomi Towers, And So I Watch You From Afar, Panama Kings, Ablespacer, Axis Of, When Pilots Eject, Continuous Battle of Order, Chipzel, JL Seagull, Escape Fails, Valkaine, Circadian, and Silver Cord. Phew! There's something for everyone in there. Full details of who's playing when are on the trans website. Tickets are CHEAP and the gigs are open to all ages with alcohol available for over 18s.
On the afternoon of Thursday 9th July there is a FREE TO ATTEND 'Music Industry Afternoon' comprising of speed-workshops and casual networking.
From 3-5pm we will have experts on hand to host workshops loosely covering the topics of Touring, Recording, Management/Legal, Marketing/Promotion, Publishing/Synch and Label Issues. Confirmed experts include Dick Miller (Rightsman), Chris McCourt (Island Records), Simon Pursehouse (Sentric Music), Peter Flemming (White Mountain Music), Fran Cotton, and Nick Fitzsimmons (Penny Distribution)
This will be followed at 5pm by casual networking at the monthly NI Music Meetup, where everyone will have the chance to mingle, chat, network and make some new friends. Both industry events are taking place in ARC Restaurant in the Waterfront Hall and are open to all ages.Now a quick note to say, if you haven't done so already PLEASE can you update databases and Christmas Card lists with our new address: Bruised Fruit
