Current mood:  touched
The day started out normal enough. Hottubbin, work, hustlin, and then it got interesting. This hippie vegan kid and his gal accompanied me and the band to Stephanie's in OB. He'd heard about their amazing pizza and had to try it before he flies out on Sat. We arrived and ordered food. Maria was out, but Vanessa hooked it up and asked me in Spanish if we had our equipment and wanted to ROCK. That's a no brainer. Ten minutes later we were set up and blazed through a two song set. This would prove to be good practice for our gig later that night. This time we rocked the staff, my friends, and three customers. One guy even knew who AC/DC is. Minds were expanded and it was back to work for a bit. OHH did I fail to mention the food was phenomenal???

Later on in the evening we headed up to scan the situation at the roller rink. Our planned show was NOT sanctioned by the DERBY DOLLS or Skate World, so caution was exercised. It was pure sneak and attack. I was able to back the HKmobile fairly close to the foyer. After stressing about no outlets for a few minutes, we decided that the car energy converter with the extension cord would have to suffice. We laid low after surveling the land and were bummed when the downpour began. It rained for a good half hour and then let up. With the weather holding and very few attendees waiting to get in, the roadies set up the equipment at 6:30.  After getting some peculiar looks from the Skate World staff, we figured we should get, while the getting was still good. Our stage manager gave the go ahead a full five minutes ahead of schedule. We blew threw a breif set and broke down quickly. I can say that I made a solid connection with a 35y/o man who knew the words to FANTASY by my man, Aldo Nova.

So the show didn't quite live up to my expecations, but the rollerskating sure did. Monty was spinning disco tunes and the ladies were plentiful. The highlight was seeing the Dolls pummel the shit out of the very adventurous newsman. Also, witnessing the demonstration on how roller derby is waged was educational. Looking forward to the next event, ladies.
