Who Gives Kudos:

This was written by Inhale The Decay and i agree with it...

"I think once an artist reaches that point of healthy living due to merch and tours complaining on downloaded shit is dumb.... That being said any local underground or indy artist should not be downloaded otherwise funding may be the end of their carrer. Dont be a fuck and support the music u listen to!!"

Now in no way shape or form was I mentioning free downloadable websites/labels as being wrong.  That is there choice.  However, other artists like Realicide, Yatagarasu, myself and many others sacrifice our lives to put records in yr hands and a performance in front of yr face, make sure we keep our prices very low and even after all that, people decide to just download our music instead spending a few bucks, and its their loss.  My past few albums come with books, with lyrics, art, stories about why the album was made and other such writing, and without these booklets, my albums are worthless, skin without a skeletal structure.

I've recieved some emails from people defending themselves for downloading, explaining their actions as "supporting", alot of these people dont even go to the shows of artists they support, so I don't see where any support comes into play there?  The bottom line is we are not caked up and whether or not you think you are, you are stealing from us.

I know and see how at this point, the internet has hindered underground artists, alot of artists themselves ruin there own artform, just because you have songs on myspace does not make you an artist.  Purpose of passion makes you an artist, not who you know, how many bands you have, what gear you use or how high and mighty you think you are.

Just be cool, humble and real, it is not hard. support the artists you think are good.

After seeing your first bulletin about this, I went and bought my friend's album, because I was bitching at him about how I should get it for free, but then I thought what if I worked on an album that I thought was the shit and something people should hear, then they downloaded it.

To be honest, when I download an album, I listen to it a couple times, but I don't get into it like I do a CD. I used to have a month of music on my computer, and sure, I knew all the albums on there, even a song or two from it, but when I buy a cd it's a whole nother experience.

Feel this. I wish I had the means to support the artists I listen to. When I can though, absolutely.

whenever i buy a cd from a diy band i always ask them if they care that it might make it to a blog or soulseek or something, alot of fucking bands are doing it for the love and anyway everyone knows the only way any band makes money is merch, and you cant download that shit, tour and make a lot of sick merch and you will be fine, that is the right way to do it

and this shit about "sacrifice our lives to put a record in yr hands and a performance in your face" is fucking BULLSHIT its a priviledged pastime we are all doing for fun, dont be a whiny little bitch or a martyr

Of coarse,
You spoke yr opinion, which is always respected then you gotta go using words like bitch.  You made yr point then you had to go fuck it up and look like a passive aggressive boy.

For you its a privileged pastime, many others and I, have sacrificed our lives to traveling and communicating with people.

if we could all afford to press vinyl, there would be no more free downloading or filesharing. i guess it kinda goes with the territory...

This sort of thing in itself it truly a double-edged sword. Personally as a musician and a DJ, I enjoy having the genuine article in my grubby hands more than anything, but if someone gives you a disk or whatever chuck-full o musix you may never have heard of, that's where the MP3 play comes in; your mind expands, and you find bands or otherwise that you can dig. With that, at least on my side, I search to find out if they have any actual albums available, and/or shows so you can support the best way possible. I'm a sucker for shirts and patches and I bug musicians (even Anthony. lol I want patches an stickers!!! Hahaha) sometimes to come up with some sweet merch, and that includes albums, whether its full or single ep's because like I said: its more satisfying to have the real deal in front of you than a soundbyte.
Maybe the internet has spoiled people in many ways. I think its great to have a bevvy of everything at your disposal, but at the heart of it all, are they just collecting for the sake of collecting? I have friends that have multiple mp3s, movies, and tv shows saved and coveted, but they never have the time to look and/or listen to said objects. Makes me kind of glad my internet time is minimal, otherwise I would be a collective junkie that does'nt appreciate anything.
Okay, so I own albums of friends and bands, but I sure as hell put thier music on my mp3 player so I can have it when I'm on the go. :) And seeing that I'm not hip on the internet-age of communication and/or little to no time finding out how everyone's day went, I still tell friends about said bands etc, if I find it suits thier fancy with the hopes they find it themselves or at least for the love of Jeebus, go to shows to support said acts. But then again, like I said, the internet has made people callous and round; too afraid to come out of thier hovel to see the real world and what it is. You can't survive off of news feeds and 4chan. Its worse than drugs to an extent, and I know people that revel in the soft glow of the new idiot box like a drug abuser.

User or abuser? Its up to the people, and moreso its harder to persuade the people, unless you have a good video on youtube.

This is a message to the people. See Xrin Arms and anyone who toils aimlessly to make a good show and album. If you have never seen this guy in action, then you are missing out. I still remember the first show, and I always look forward to more. Cheers

If it was not for the internet many genres would not exsist. I think if u give ur music away thats cool but if u work hard on a actual release then people should pay for it.

agreed. our 2nd demo made us enough cheddar to fund our newest record, so we made the new guy free to download. Kids are still payin the 3$ for a sweet packaged cd at the show @ which is now funding the new album. love you

i mainly download on a try before you buy basis (as many disappointing 180s as there have been, I rarely pick up anything blind anymore).
if I really like it that much, I buy it (preferably at a show from the band themselves)

I don't know how many other people see it this way. I might be in a minority.
