Iris Robinson is an MP. As such such she represents all the people of Strangford irrespective of race, gender, religion, political preference or sexual orientation.

"I have a very lovely psychiatrist who works with me in my offices and his Christian background is that he tries to help homosexuals - trying to turn away from what they are engaged in," she said.

"I'm happy to put any homosexual in touch with this gentleman and I have met people who have turned around and become heterosexuals.

Though I doubt this Christian psychiatrist is able to cure homosexuals of their preference, I doubt not that a homosexual can change to become heterosexual, not suggesting that it is a change for the better nor worse.

First of all, i should draw a line, people often group lesbians and gays together under the title gay, which is crap, you wouldn't call a gay man a lesbian, so why call a lesbian woman, gay. I actually believe that the two concepts being gay, and being lesbian (bar consideration of bisexuality, transsexuality, and other things which only add complexity to the matter) should be considered very differently. Why? Well, the orgasm is seemingly quite different to the woman compared with the man, so it is naive to assume that homosexuality in males and in females would be some how more similar.

I speak only of experience; there is a whole wealth of evidence to suggest that sexuality is determined by nature, and there is a whole wealth of evidence to suggest that sexuality is determined by nurture, wouldn't it be funny if both sides were correct, and in fact, there was a dynamic interaction between nature and nurture.

I have written a book, still in negotiations with the publishers, it is a book about sexuality and gender identity, what became clear to me, was that though I was the third born son, and thus likely to have the attributes of being born into homosexuality (nature), rather than nurtured, yet surprisingly, significant events in my life, such as being homosexually abused at the age of 11, could not be ruled out in terms of their affect on my nurture. I then started discussing my thoughts with other persons on non-hetero sexuality, to discover that though only a significant proportion had been sexually abused and not all, those that hadn't, still had an accountable number of influences, which could have affected their sexuality. I then looked at fetishes, and again, noticed similar reoccurring themes. Finally, I believe that I discovered a model, a theory for how, in the genetic male, sexuality could be nurtured. I make no comment about female sexuality, but don't discount that that also could be nurtured.

So, personally, I am convinced that to an extent, sexuality is a nurtured behaviour, and as such could be cured; however, it would first have to start with a radical re-organisation of society, since it is society that, in my opinion, is creating homosexuals and keeping them homosexual.
