As some of you already know, my dog Gonzo started having seizures back in March. The medications helped at first, but nothing could really control it. He was on three medications and still kept having seizures often. The vets had said that this combo of medications was basically the last option. His condition really started to worsen this week. Yesterday, even with the emergency medication, he continued to seize. It had become uncontrollable. The poor little guy was in pain and stressed out and the seizures could have been fatal. Colby and I decided that it was time to put Gonzo out of his misery. At 1am we took him to the emergency vet and put him down. Sadly, they don't dispose of the remains. We had to bring him home with us in a cardboard coffin. We plan to bury him in the field behind our house this evening.
He was only 2 years old and still full of life an energy. I loved taking him to the river and camping. He was my pal and companion. We just couldn't watch him suffer anymore.
A letter to Gonzo
