To whom it may concern,

The past several years for us as From A Second Story Window have been quite a roller coaster ride. We have watched trends come and go, looked on as people grew in and out of an ever undulating "scene", and had the chance to watch something we love, our music, grow into an expression we can all truly be proud of. However, the life in a band is much like those very roads we travel down on every tour; hills leading up, followed by valley's dipping downward towards vast, level planes where things begin to feel stagnant and a bit too calm. Then around every corner is a new fad or statement that you can either grow with or simply step aside and let it be what it is, knowing that you are no longer connected at all anymore. For us, with this changing musical market and its inhabitants, it is simply our time to step aside and let the flow continue on without us. It is time for us to venture down new avenues of creativity and to find new things to enrich our lives fully. From A Second Story Window was something that gave us all hope and pride in our small part of the musical world, but with economical woe's pulling us down, and changes in attitude towards the entire movement of "heavy" music, it just seems right to call it quits and move on in our own ways. Please accept our deepest thanks to everyone out there who has ever helped us out, made it to our shows, partied with us afterwords (or before, ha ha), and most importantly listened to our music and truly cared about it as much as we did and still do. This is not an end for us as musical people, just an end for us as a group called From A Second Story Window, so be looking for little projects that any of us may do for fun in the future. Again, this entire trip has been a roller coaster ride, and I know that none of us are put out what-so-ever that we bought tickets and got in line! Thanks again to everyone out there, we've had a blast!

This is the best farewell letter from a band that I have ever read. Comparing it to tour was the best possible to way to make other musicians understand things from your bands point of view. I truly understand what you are trying to say about music and the battle between fads and history. I can read between the lines there. Listening to your music from past to present really helps me understand what you were growing towards as an entity and why you chose this. I have learned many things from you guys just by picking your brains about labels and toruing and i wish you all the best. Your band has influenced me as a musician but not as much as you all have as people. Your truly one of the COOLEST bands I have ever met and it felt good when you made us feel like family. Keep in touch.

AAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are so influential in how I play all my instruments. I can't believe that you're disbanding!!!!!!!!! Every one of your records were different and I loved them all. Thanks for the awesome music though. I just lost one of my top 3 bands and metal itself just lost one of it's best. Good luck to you all.

goddamn

to be honest, i did change with the scenes and the fads, but i did purchase your new cd, and prior to the cd i put your name out there as much as i could in the dallas texas area; and even though ive changed completely out of the " heavy music" genre, you guys were still a huge 'root' if you will in my.. identity.. you guys were probably the music that advanced me in any certain stage. im sorry that you all broke up but i look forward to hearing from you further.

My brohams, this is a sad day. the music you created helped me through so many hard times, i've seen you grow into one of the most progressive acts in existence, and although your ending this chapter i look forward to seeing what's next. I'm thankful i was able to witness the spectacle of your shows through the various member changes and what not and even more thankful that i got to meet and simply chill with you guys, whether we were sharing brews or bowls. You guys helped create this whole new chaotic metal sound that everyone seems to imitate these days, and yet even though you never got the credit you truly deserved for it, every time i saw you at shows you guys were the same down to earth fun loving guys, and thats speaks volumes on your characters. I wish you all the best in your future endeavors and i will still wear my ridiculously large FASSW collection of t-shirts with pride. and if any of you ever need a place to crash while in LA just let me know.

Sincerily,
Your friend Adam (retarded guy that bought like $200 worth of merch at a show in orlando)

I have been a fan since 04 when I saw you guys here in Houston open up for On Broken Wings, it was quite possibly the craziest small venue show that I have ever witnessed. There were chairs flying, toilet paper on Derek and lots of broken objects, ever since that show I was a fan. It took me a little while to like your new album but once I really "listened" to it I realized how awesome it was and how much you have progressed as a band. I was really looking forward to seeing the new songs live, but it is what is is............I look forward to hearing any new projects you guys are in so let us know!!! and good luck.

Wow, this is some sad news... I only got to see you guys play once, and it was before I was really a fan, so I didn't appreciate it the way I should have.

Delenda is one of my favorite albums of all time and Conversations is steadily growing on me, it's a huge shame that we won't get to hear a follow up. The style of music you guys play was very often imitated, but never done with quite the substance you had. In fact, out of the thousands of 'heavy' bands I listen to, none do what you did, not even close.

Thank you for your dedication to what you love, and thank you for making such great music. I'll keep an eye on your new projects.

even though I left the band awhile ago, FASSW didnt stop there for me. When we started this band what seems like ages ago, all of us I think really just wanted to not have to pay for getting into shows. At least I did anyways. BUT this became something truly beautiful. There were times after shows I had goosebumps that didn't go away. Even more so, I witnessed things I never thought possible with the kindness and great spirits that emanate from the individuals we all met on tour. I have recently tried to step back into the "scene" or whatever but honestly, It's so different now. I know that what fassw became was all about giving a huge middle finger to everything that was "normal" or "supposed" to be, with regards to genres and song structuring or whatever. Actually, Fassw was about so many things for each person in the band. I needed it. I desperately need it even more it seems because the underground world is now stagnated with a bunch of meshuggah rip off bands, to say the least. I give so much credit to the guys in fassw for making Conversations. If you spend even five minutes with any of them (and in my case, years), you know it's exactly who they are as people. What more could you ever possibly ask for with a band, but to be completely and totally genuine? There is nothing false on any of the records. The ep was a jolt to our nervous system. Delenda was a huge concept album about loss and how I personally dealt with losing some people very close to me (and the rest of the guys in the band also share with me on this one). Conversations was simply the rest of fassw being bros and playing music that, well, from my very limited perspective, tried to reach a plateau where they could wave goodbye to everyone in proper fashion. Nice job guys. Even if we have our differences, I love all of you and thank you so much for so many years of rage, sorrow, and most of all, satisfying happiness.

as someone who never actually got to see you guys live (cos im on the other side of the world) hearing this really hits hard. i can safly say that there isnt another, nor will ever be, a band like fassw. you guys had something special and the music created is nothing less than a work of art. from the cassandra complex to conversations you have outdone yourselfs each and everytime musically and lyrically. i think i speak for all fassw fans when i say no band will ever replace what you have given us. i say thankyou for the amazing music and all the best with future projects, etc. x

By far best farewell letter. I remember seeing you guys in 2004 in some shithole bar in Dayton Ohio. But after many line up changes & other things I figured you guys would eventually call it quits.

But I never changed one thing about myself with all these changes in music. Noone should ever change or go along with a trend. Everyone should just be themselves. I was never apart of a "scene". I was there to be apart of the music & the live setting. Liking music shouldnt be about making friends. It's about the feeling you get when the hairs on the back of you neck stand up & you connect with it. It's not about what the bands wearing. Its how they present themselves & let me tell you what you guys never let me down.

The bands that do something different & don't follow these bullshit trends are the ones who really count. Don't go to shows to make friends & be apart of the drama go to the shows for music & not how high your spin kick is or how fast you can throw a wind mill and hit a chick in the face. I admit I have done my fare share of "dancing" but in all reality just close your eyes & be in the moment with the band. Or go ape shit & scream every word with sweat blood & tears running down your face.

Thanks for the awesome years guys. I will never forget you guys.

Although, i did have a blast seeing you guys do what you do best. i can still remember going to all the local shows when you still lived around here. Going to section 8 shows, and shows at freddy fresh's in sharon. my god, where has the time gone? But at the same time, i wish you gentlemen the best of luck in all that you do. Please understand that you have not only shaped the way that most of us listen to music and feel about music, but you have given a lot of us great memories. Nothing and noone can take that away.
