Current mood:  sad
For anyone that might not have heard the news today, we lost one of the comic greats last night. Michael Turner, after waging a valiant fight with Cancer for the last 7+ years, Passed away last night at the age of 37.
To say I knew Mike would be a vast overstatement since I only saw him once or twice a year and it was usually just to say hello but I knew many of his friends very well and have come up in the industry hearing stories of Mike's kindness and devotion to his thousands of fans and the smile that always donned his face even when the Cancer he suffered from was at it's worst. year after year, even when in great pain, Mike would travel around the country to as many conventions as he could to show his appreciation to anyone that loved him or his work as well as pumping out cover after cover month in and month out even when the pain got so bad that he had to draw flat on his back. Mike set an example for all of us to follow whether it be work ethic or a general positive outlook on life even when things are at their worst.
They say that an artist is special because he or she is the only being in the world that is immortal. The works they create can live on forever far after the artist is gone. Mike proved this by showing all of us what is possible with hard work and determination and he created characters and worlds that will stand the test of time and keep him living in the artwork he drew.
If you knew Michael or his work, please take a moment tonight to pray for Mike as well as all the family and friends that are mourning his loss. If you're not familiar with Mike, please take a second to look him up and see the kind of art he created. We lost one of the great ones today at far too young an age and our industry is poorer for it.

If you would like to send condolences to Michael's family you are encouraged to do so. Please send them to:

Aspen MLT, Inc.
C/O Michael Turner

His company Aspen Comics is also encouraging anyone wishing to do so to send a charitable donation big or small in Mike's name to The American Cancer Society http://www.cancer.org/docroot/home/index.asp or the Make-A-Wish Foundation http://www.wish.org/help?s_kwcid=make%20a%20wish|917760391

Till we meet again,

Such terrible news -- I never knew Michael -- but on this day, in the wake of his passing, I've found myself overcome by the loss -- rivers of sadness have left their mark upon me, and I am a better person for it, for if the true measure of one person's life is to make another feel for them -- especially some one I never met -- then he must have been nothing less than remarkable.

I shall remember you Mr. Turner. May The Good Lord Bless You and Your Family & Friends.

Peace,
J. J.

New artwork coming very soon!

Today was truly a day of loss. I've known his work since he broke in and he never stopped blowing me away. I really feel for the family and friends who experienced him in the fullest level. I can only imagine how much he touched thier lives given how much he's touched all of ours.

New artwork coming very soon!

Just found this and it seemed to fit. Especially here on this blog.

"In art, everything anyone teaches you, becomes a part of your style. As long as theres more of you in there than everyone else, you've got something that you can't doubt"

This is more of disheartening to me then George Carlin's Death.

He had a unique artstyle hat was masterful.

This news is so surprising to me, I don't know how to react, I thought I would have new art from him for years to come.

The good thing is that we will always have his art and the images will always be in our heart.

We all have to remember,to take what life gives us.And reach for the stars, thats what Michael did all of his short and wonderful life. Be nice as you can be, give what you can, and make this world a better place for those who follow behind you.I think Michael made his space in this world better. And you know one day pathes will be crossed agian and friendships will be renewed. But in another place and time.

We met Mike back in 2002 I think and he was such a nice guy. Since that time, over the years we have seen him several times, he always seemed to remember us and always had a smile, regardless of his personal pain.

We last saw him during Wonder Con 2007 in SF, he was on crutches coming into the hotel. We said hello and wished him well.

We will miss him and are sad to see him go
