Is Myspace Dead? YES or No?

I put this as my status and got quite a few comments. Most of them are leaning towards YES.

JP wrote:

JP Posted 6 hours agoAs a social networking website, yes. As a music networking site, its still one of the first sites I check for new music and new groups.

I have to say, I think Facebook wins when it comes to social networking, keeping in touch with the family & friends. I actually have two Facebook accounts, one is strictly family. I love reading wee post from my cousins and nieces etc.

♥♠ Ruth ♦♣ Posted 12 hours ago Sadly it seems to be going through a period of ghost town which may or may not change...however, Facebook can't touch it for music/media and Twitter is useless to me. As for social networking, it seems to be pretty quiet here.

I'm in two minds about Twitter. I do have a Twitter page:
http://twitter.com/skye_edwards  but I'm not on it everyday! Sometimes I think you can put too much information out there. Still, I guess it can be useful to let folks know what your up to every now and then...

I have made quite a few connections with fans on Facebook:
http://www.facebook.com/skyewards But I think Myspace is still the coolest place for hearing new music. For me, this is my website. I control it. I find it really easy to add new tunes and post pictures. I enjoy writing the odd blog every once in a while. And I've made some great music connections on here too. Long Live Myspace!!!

I'd agree with Ruth, though the social half of MySpace has all but petered out, the Music end is stronger than ever.  I do most of my messaging on Facebook, but I have Myspace open in the background playing music (often your music Skye).  MySpace is a great way to explore music that I would otherwise never be exposed to.  Skye, you fall into that category where you are a very accomplished performer, but hardly a household name...I feel that MySpace is a great medium for you.  ..
....I was peer-pressured into starting a facebook account and that proved to be a good move.  As for Twitter...how many sites must we go to to see what our friends are up to?  Get up and go for a walk folks, go grab your MP3 player (loaded with legally obtained Skye songs) and go get some fresh air...enjoy the beauty of nature, or (for you urbanites) the marvels of mankind.....
....I just can't wait for your glorious return to NYC.  You're music is both soothing and uplifting, something this world needs.  Keep up the great work!!!..

OH...I FORGOT MY NAME...?!
Playwright. Lyricist.

I agree with Malcolm Joseph...but he's still on this! Myspace has been a great way for me to gain contacts (I'm not gonna put that down!) and to vent my spleen quickly and hopefully effectively. I used to have 50 avid readers on Myspace, then I left and when I returned I now only have 7...

Facebook I left you too! Then I returned with a different name and I now only have my mates on it...it's brilliant because I have a great gang of mates in Liverpool who I was starting to lose touch with until I rejoined FB...yes we talk a lot of filth and bollox on it, but who doesn't?

Twitter...seems like stalking to me...

Lov n Lavs!

I think lately Facebook has been winning over MySpace when it comes to keep in touch with friends and family. ..But.. MySpace is ..so.. much better for music, so... Skye, thank you for keeping us informed!..
....By the way, I can't believe it. Now that I'm finally back in London, you're touring around the world, whaaaaa.... OK, I'll wait, patienly... :)..

So for me what I like about myspace is how you can express your individuality with creating your page exactly how you want it with art colors etc,  if someone doesn't know you they can get an idea off your page alone I feel.  Anyways I do feel though that no one cares about it as much anymore almost every friend I talk to asks me if I'm on facebook.  I'm not because keeping up with one site is enough for me.  I do feel like what someone else wrote on here that something new will come along  everyone will jump on it,  and facebook, twitter,  etc will be old news.  For Music Myspace is my choice.

Like a lot of others here, I use FB to keep up with family and friends. I use MySpace to keep up with the music that I love.

Hope you'll make San Francisco a stop on the tour!

By the way, I use FB mostly for keeping in-touch with people I really know, though MySpace is mostly related to my job about music.

I first made my little Myspace page because of a singer I was in touch with over a fan club page and we all quite liked Myspace, but then everyone kinda got bored of it I guess.
For me I still pop in here once in a while since it is nice to hear first hand from artists themselves what they are up to, hear some new tours and announcements etc. Facebook doesn't let you have a blog (I don't think) and it is more for quick hellos etc. Twitter I don't even follow...
Face to face is nice but its often impossible when some of your family or close friends are far far away...

I think those websites are for a different thing. If I am going to try to find new music and interesting musicians I always check on myspace.
I have Facebook for personal comments only, and to write funny non sense comments. Also I have a Facebook band page, but it doesn't seem to work honestly. I prefer always this one, where real musicians and real fans look for music.

Well I don't use Twitter, I spend about 5 minutes on Facebook every couple of days...But I come to myspace for music and can easily spend a couple of hours here reading blogs and listening to new music.....So no I don't think it is dead, but it's up to the artists to keep it alive also by updating blogs and keeping their page fresh.....My favourite artists are the ones who actually take the time to answer the fans (the people who buy their records!) messages, and YES, Skye you are one of those lovely people :)..

From what I've seen, Myspace has around 10% as much happening now as Myspace did 2 years ago, and for me at least, there's about 20 times more happening on Facebook right now compared to Myspace.  I haven't messed with Twitter.....but I don't know if bands are posting sites on Facebook.
