When we got back from overseas, I had this sudden brain wave, not even a week after we set foot back in Australia... why not buy a house? Everyone was saying now is the time. First home owners grant. Interest rate drop. Everything is working in the first home owner's favour, including the recession. The problem is, when I get a big idea, it ends up becoming an obsession.
So here we are in March, and not only do I still want a house, but we have in fact already found one and are just going through the final steps of loan approval, and it's ours, ready to move in on 14 April (if I can't make it sooner). Didn't really have much of a deposit saved up, but these days that isn't really so important. Would have been nice, but first home buyer boost certainly helps in that area.
The crazy thing is there are so many unexpected costs when it comes time to buy a house. Pest and structure inspections, solicitors, building insurance from the day of the contract, and lots of other little random things. But we are close now. All the big stuff is organised and we are just waiting for that confirmation that yes, our loan is approved. I'm not concerned. Financially, we are just what a home loan lender is looking for, so it's as good as confirmed.
Now for the other exciting bits. We get to shop for furniture now. Finally a house big enough to fit a decent amount of furniture. And a bigger bed. Whoo! And we already purchased our new TV. 50 inch plasma. Simon wants it now, but we have left it at the store until we move. A nice little moving house gift.
So it appears 2009 is already a big year for us. Overseas trip and now a house. I am also eligible to apply for my full psychologist registration now too. That means no more psychologist in training. Can't wait to loose the training wheels!
