BENEFIT FOR MADALYN SKLAR FOUNDER OF GOGIRLS MUSIC
Local musicians unite to help leader in music scene
HOUSTON (JUNE, 2007)—Rockin Benefit Events present a Benefit Concert for Madalyn Sklar Founder of GoGirls Music on Saturday, June 30th beginning at 6:00 p.m. at The Last Concert Café, located at 1403 Nance Street. The event will feature eight Elite GoGirl bands throughout the course of the evening. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event will benefit Madalyn Sklar.
Madalyn Sklar, founder of www.GoGirlsMusic.com, faced major surgery back in January when doctors discovered she had an aneurysm located in her abdomen. She spent 6 days in the hospital, racking up large medical bills totaling over $70,000. Luckily she has medical insurance but could only afford it by having a large deductible. So between the large deductible and her share of the medical costs her friends across the country have helped by making donations (see link below for how you can make a donation) and holding benefits of her behalf. You can visit her CaringBridge page and read about her experience at www.caringbridge.org/visit/madalynsklar.
Madalyn Sklar has been named one of the top fifteen people to know if the Indie music scene and has done so much for both women in music as well as all musicians. Now fellow musicians want to give back to this chick that truly rocks!
Artists scheduled to appear throughout the course of the weekend include Robin Leigh, Tabitha Monet, Celeste Terrell Music, Finding Garbo, Hidden Agenda, Katie Stuckey, Osirus, 3 Kisses. In addition to the entertainment, the event will feature door prizes and raffles as well as appearances by The Houston Press Street Team.
The event is open to all ages. $5 donation at the door. For more information, visit www.myspace.com/rockinforrise or email Veronica Butler at caminosgirl@yahoo.com
