Sitting on my purple couch, in my motorhead t-shirt that seth gave me years ago. Just got back from the Masters of Metal tour that came through Jones beach. Holy Crap! We (me and my pal Jess) missed Testament, sadly, cause a bunch of latesters came to brunch at 2:45 (Grrr), but got to see all of Motorhead. It's amazing when you see one man who's spent 50+ (60+?) years perfecting the art of being a badass do his thing: be a badass. God Bless you Lemmy!
Then we saw Heaven and Hell-which is Black Sabbath fronted by Ronnie James Dio. A wise man once said that Dio has rocked for a long long time, which is true. But he seems like he's not quite ready to pass the torch and can still sing like a mofo. I was also really impressed by tony iommi. I've always known that he basically invented the heavy metal riff (and therefore heavy metal music) but I was quite struck by what a good lead player he is. And there stage set up had two smoke breathing winged gargoyles. Seriously.
Finally, the reason I went in the first place: Judas Priest-my first favorite band (circa 5th grade: 1983). They started off with Nostradamus, and then went into Metal Gods. We were right up front and on KKs side. Yes, he still kicks ass, as do they all. Then they played Eat me Alive, which got tipper gore's panties in a wad back in '84. Breaking the law, of course. Painkiller, rock hard, ride free, Hammer and anvil, Electric Eye, Devil's child, Green Manalishi, Hell bent for Leather, and You've got another thing coming. They sounded amazing! The guitar tones were blisteringly perfect. Halford's still got amazing pipes. Scott Travis is a killer drummer. And of course Ian Hill is really good at that one note he plays. I wonder if back in '73, they had any idea that they'd still be at it and still be awesome. It was really something to see the band that first sparked my interest in music.
Now I'm gonna say a little prayer to my dark lord satan to dictate some heavy metal tunes to me so that I can fulfill my dream of rokken into my 60s. (listen here, Satan, I don't want no crazy curse like I can rock but my dick falls off, m'kay. Just give me the rock-no strings attached. You can't have my soul either, cause I was saved in high school, and I can't be unsaved, aight? I just want to play your music, mr. dark lord. Nothing more. I'm not like those guys in mayhem. I'm not gonna burn any churches for you. I realize that this deal seems a little one sided. I'm sorry, Satan. But let's face it, you've probably been unfair in your life once or twice, so quit your bellyaching! And give me at least 10 earth shaking heavy metal anthems. Thanks, guy)

Ah... but what about Anthrax? ;-)

Seriously, this sounds like it was about perfect. Particularly getting to see Lemmy and Judas Priest. I mean... wow. Admittedly, I was too uptight as a kid to appreciate how awesomely silly the early metal bands were. Or to listen to anything as potentially blasphemous as "Judas Priest.
