The 2nd Concert in the new Adventure Club Series in Substanz, April 16th...
Sunday night, 4 bands playing, with a twist (see below), in Substanz, for only 3 euros.
Next
Sunday, April 16th in Substanz, we hold the second show of a new concert series. It's called
The Adventure Club.
The bands are the best that Munich has to offer, carefully selected by
The Adventure Club staff. The concept is different: the stage is already set up, the bands are not allowed to bring their own equipment but must play with whatever's on the stage... bands play two rounds each (yes, you get to see each band play two sets). Many TT'ers attended the first show and it was a good time - even better this time that nobody has to go to work the next day. This month's bands are:
Mexican Elvis - This band make and play nice music/pop noise- sometimes quiet, sometimes loud. Piano and guitar, bass, and laptop. Indie and Pop. London and Munich. Brother and Sister (Christoph Brandner; Peter Hall; Laury and Maximiliane Reichart). Think dEUS und Postal Service, Mountain Goats und Ben & Jason.Fuller - This band plays songs rock songs that remind me a bit of Weezer, but who certainly have been influenced by bands like The Dandy Warhols and include an element of Brit Pop and American Emo. Excellent melodies and harmonies without abandoning ripping guitars, plus adding nice touches like horns along the way. This show is only a preview for when Fuller play with Five!Fast!!Hits!!! at Tollwood this summer.Celest - Led by Irishman Ollie Purcell, this four-piece started out playing straight-up guitar pop... and they did it very well. So well in fact that they were picked up by Little Teddy Records, a local label here in Munich who also manages the music club Prager Fruehling. Celest's most recent CD, Take it in Your Stride marks an expansion in the band's abilities and repertoire. Influences from bands like Interpol seep in and the result is a bit darker, but still melodic indie pop. Not to be missed.Bank - Two words, Sascha Laumann. If you follow the local music scene, you have seen Sascha play with bands like Mathilde (a pop band who play tonight, April 7th in Orangehouse), The Scovilles (on bass guitar), and The Blackout Argument (yes, it's a hard core band with grunting, screaming and all). You may not realize that Sascha also toured with Joachim Deutschland during his brief, but quick rise to stardom here in Germany. Tonight, you get to see Sascha as the front man, providing the vocals and guitars along with a truly solid, innovative band (not all focus should be on Sascha!). This band wrote a true classic from the Munich music scene (in my opinion): the song Four, which you can listen to on The Adventure Club Homepage. So all in all, a cool, laid-back Sunday evening with lots of music. Bands play in rounds. In the first round, bands play for 10 minutes (around 2 songs). In the second round, bands play for 20 mintues (around 4-5 songs). No waiting for the stage to be set up. Pure, local, music. m94,5 DJs finish off the night afterwards... nice way to end a weekend.
