Spitfire, the sacred fire - March 2007 - "Tri Sélectif" blog on 20minutes.fr
For once I think I'm ahead of the pack on an upcoming group, and when we like something this much, we feel the need to share!
Spitfire is a Parisian group who formed in 2004 that I've only ever seen once live, in a small club near Place de Clichy (Paris, France) , nonetheless, they blew me away! Just a few songs in and Spitfire had everyone present agreed on one thing, that they were a group with powerful themes and addictive melodies. A particular shout out must go to the massive track "Shoot Me" with its enormously obsessive riffs. This convinced me of their quality to move people with a song which is in fact quite agressive. 'Shoot Me' is clearly this group's uppercut! After this verification of the quality of their live show, Spitfire are, in my opinion, capable of great things. Lead by an Irish singer with palpable charisma and an extremely powerful voice (think Bono, Joshua Tree era) the group is a veritable sonic tornado, that plays high and loud. Musically, Spitfire's sound lies somewhere between U2, The Strokes or even The Doors, but I'd add that there is an undefinable punk urgency that reigns here which they thankfully don't completely master yet. I rarely say it, but I will here, this group have enough talent to take it all the way. They are currently preparing a self-produced debut album, I for one can't wait to hear it!
