Interview DEVILRY Magazine (Bulgaria)
1. Can you start with explaining to the fans what your names means?
For us personally the name SEMEN DATURA is a metapher for 'origin of night'. A long time passed since we created the name...I don't think so much about what it means for me today. The content is important!
2. It seems that you are very into the philosophy.I like very much phrases like “Protest is when I say this does not please me.”What is your philosophy?
My 'philosophy' (I don't like this word in this case) is the eternal search through the depths of psychology. All is about devotion and domination...either you rule or you loose...or you're dead. I think in the modern world a lot of false ones rule...maybe this is the reason for sympathy to the phrase of the former RAF member U. Meinhof. In my opinion it's a good idea to support any form of protest against the dumpishness of the masses. It doesn't mean that I wanna heal the society or change the system...it's only the a kinda definition where I stand.
3. Can you tell something about the history of the band?
Foundet 1997 as a three piece in germany. We official released one tape, one EP and two full length. After a lot of line-up changes the last years it's now more my personal expression then an ordinary 'band'. Now we reached a point where I can say 'this is really that what we want to express'. The upcomming album 'EINSAMKEIT' is the actual 'peak of mountain', musically and lyrically too. Our former works were just the road to 'EINSAMKEIT'...
4. What can we expect musically, have you got a title already and has a release date been set so far?
The title is 'EINSAMKEIT', the german word for 'forlornness' or 'solitude'. We signed by the italian label ATMF and the release is scheduled for 2009. Musically I would describe it as transboundary Black Metal with a depressive mood. I'm sure that most of the crowd have never heard music like this. It's a mental journey put into tunes, you fall down and you try to stand up, you dream and you awake...but always under a dark grey heaven. Best, you listen to the trailer on our websites...
5. I do not have any information about the lyrics and I would like to know a lot more about them.
On the upcomming album the lyrics are very mind-oriented, psychological and depressed. Imagine you're naked, all is cold and bleak and you're walking through a leafless dark forest...an endless walk. It comes the day, the night, the day, the night...and all you hope is to find a gun to give them all an end. But there is nothing, no gun, no end...just this dark spiral.
6. Did you have a lot live show these days?
There are actually no plans for live shows. We need a suitable atmosphere to express what we want to express and this is not possible at the moment...not in germany. We are not this kind of band that want to play at a metal-party with drunken audience and so on...
7. What are the costs to create an album for you?
A lot of time and energy... We don't make an album each year...an album is very especially for us because it's the essence of creativity over years. If you will buy our upcomming album you get a lifework...extrem high values at all. The costs are not important for a requiem.
8. Did you know anything about Bulgaria?
I know a little bit about Bulgaria...location, food and so on... We hail from east germany and I'm in generally very interessted into the states in east europe...sometimes I will visit the land.
9. Any solid plans for the near future?
We're only focused to 'EINSAMKEIT'...to give them all attention. 10.Hails from DEVILRY Magazine and your fans. Some last words for them? Okay, thanks for your interesst and regards to the bulgarian maniacs. Hails to all who keep the art in Black Metal alive. Good luck with the magazine.
