I recently stumbled upon this great quote by
Mark Baxter.
"The truth is, many of us find it difficult to change
because we fear success. We've become so used to the struggle, we can't imagine our lives any differently. What would we be left with without excuses like cigarettes, slacker bandmates and local club scenes to complain about?
It's frightening to think that what's holding us back is inside. Instead, we prefer to blame external issues and try to overcome them the best we can. Ironically, the best way to break this fear is to reduce expectations. If you smoke you should quit just because it's stupid, not because it will dramatically improve your voice. If your band, or the town in which you live, isn't right for you then you should move on instead of trying to make things workout for another year.
Just remember your baggage will follow."
